Your Invite to Oolite Arts

I promised myself that the next time Oolite Arts had an opening reception I would make sure everyone from The Three Tomatoes would be invited. I’m giving you more than a week’s notice. I’m thrilled that I remembered because this is a big social gathering. If you want to meet some of the biggest social networkers in Miami, be sure to join us.

When you walk around the exhibition be sure to say hello to as many people as you can. They will stop to talk to you. Everyone in Miami is looking for new friends all the time. It’s not that we are not loyal to our old friends, it’s just that people have big parties here and they want to mix the old with the new.

I do feel that many of the people I have met in the last 25 years in Miami are in their second chapter of life. Some started way before 50 years of age, others decided they need something different at 65 plus. It doesn’t matter. Everyone is looking for new buddies to play tennis, golf, pickle ball, cards, book groups, travel, boating, beach sunning and swimming, and even new business startups. They are all kind of tired of hearing the same stories from old friends. Everyone I know wants to hear about new opportunities, new journeys, and fun things to do. Remember, the sun shines in Miami 365 days a year.

Oolite attracts so many people because it’s located on the famous Lincoln Road. Most visitors will make a night of it because there are so many nearby casual places to eat and/or drink. If you feel like shopping, there are all kinds of chains and independent stores both east and west of the Oolite exhibition. Forty plus artists will be on hand to celebrate their relationship with Oolite Arts during the organization’s four-decade history.

Setting the tone for the show, at the center of the gallery will be the vessel pictured above by potter Ellie Schneiderman. An artist and visionary, Schneiderman founded Oolite Arts as an artist-support organization that, as the exhibition’s title reflects, “helps artists help themselves.”

Residents will also be opening their studios to the public for Resident Night.

Break open your piggy bank.  If you have the money to spend all in one night, then I have something very special to tell you about. This only happens once. Al Pacino is coming to Miami to celebrate the 40th anniversary of “Scarface .” Where else would you go? The iconic Fontainebleau Hotel knows how to honor a legend. The hotel was an actual filming location for the film. The producers of this event are working hard behind the scenes to get some of the original cast members from the film to the event.

Miamians Just Want to Have Fun 

The latest fad in Miami are the motorized parachutes. They seem to be multiplying like crazy. Every time I look up at the sky, I see another daredevil flying by. Quite frankly, they unnerve me. I feel like I have to keep my eye on them to make sure nothing bad happens. Of course, there is nothing I can really do. I just feel they will have a safe ride if I keep watching them.

I’m sitting on my terrace last Tuesday when two of these flying contraptions were taking nose dives right in front of me. I was sure one of them was going to crash but thank goodness nothing bad happened. I quickly shot a short video so you can see exactly what I am talking about. I felt a little shaky while I was recording because the parachutes were going up and down so fast.

By the time the evening came around, I was already acclimated to zig zagging objects in the sky. The fireworks for the 4th of July were spectacular. This is the 22nd year we watched them from our 36th floor terrace. Eliot snapped away like he does all the time.
