Miami Life: Miami Spice, Gospel Brunch, Brightline, Sherlock Holmes

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I have two additional restaurants to add to my Miami Spice story. I wrote about attending the Sunday Gospel brunch at Red Rooster, and now I have actually experienced it. There’s big news about Brightline with a planned extension from West Palm Beach to Orlando International Airport. Love mysteries? Head to The Frost Museum and solve the Sherlock Holmes Mystery.

My Miami Spice: Story Update

“Hello Lois,

Great to connect with you, I am Nicki from Carma Connected!

I came across your story on The Three Tomatoes and was wondering if you could update your story online to include two of our clients who are participating in Spice.”

I received this email today from the agency that represents two restaurants that were not included in my Miami Spice article that talks about special pricing for August and September. For some reason the restaurants below were not in the Miami Spice list I referenced.

Miami Sundays are for a Fresh New Start

Maryel Epps, John De Faro, me, David Kessler, and Eliot Hess

I wrote about attending the Sunday Gospel brunch at Red Rooster, Overtown, last week but two days later we actually experienced it.  All I can say is if you want to lift up your spirits and get a renewed lease on life, make this a Sunday habit.

From the minute we walked in, we could feel the energy of enjoying life to the fullest. There were happy people everywhere making Sunday a day of joy, peace and harmony. All at once, you feel the sounds of inspiring music, colorful art work everywhere, and people toasting and hugging each other. This was a great break from the world around us.

Thank you life coach therapist, David Kessler, for telling us about the every Sunday treat. Artist John DeFaro, my kissing cousin, joined Eliot and I for the love-in afternoon. The food was delicious. One of the best ceviches ever, coconut style. Everyone knows Eliot, the guy with the glasses. He gets us the best table.

Brightline Tests At 110 MPH, Fastest Speed Ever

Whenever I hear anything about the Brightline, I get very excited. It is a privately run inter-city rail route between Miami and West Palm Beach. The trains run on tracks owned by Florida East Coast Railway.

The big news now is that an extension from West Palm Beach to Orlando International Airport is expected to open in 2023.I can’t wait. The ability to get on this luxury train and visit friends to the north makes Miami one of the most appealing cities in the country.

So many northerners moved to areas all over Florida. Now we have a better chance to visit them, or vice versa. I would rather take a beautiful, clean train, with many amenities then drive in traffic on the I-95 with all the daredevils swerving in and out of lanes. Each train terminal now looks like the ones you see at airports. They are filled with great restaurants and interesting shops. Food is also served onboard.

The Next Miami newsletter said, Brightline is testing trains at 110 miles per hour its fastest speed ever. A spokesperson said the 110 mph testing would begin this Fall. It will take place between West Palm Beach to the Cocoa segment.

Brightline has also said it is studying increasing speeds on that segment to 150 miles per hour.

Brightline trains have been running test trains on the West Palm Beach-Cocoa segment since January, to prepare for the start of service on the Miami-Orlando route.

The company’s first station in Orlando will be at the Orlando International Airport.

Brightline is reportedly now considering two additional stops in Orlando, both at the Orange County Convention Center near Universal, and another location near Disney property.

It looks like I will be a well traveled lady.

Solve The Sherlock Holmes Mystery at The Frost Museum

“There is nothing more deceptive than an obvious fact.” – Sherlock Holmes

The Sherlock Holmes exhibition at the Frost Science Museum in Miami is a must see. You will never forget it. By the way, beware, the exhibition contains authentic human remains.

Watch the video for a preview.

Step into 221b Baker Street and explore the legendary sitting room of the world’s most famous, fictional, detective. Here you’ll test your powers of observation as you look for interesting items around the room. Could these observational skills help you solve the mystery? There’s only one way to find out!

If you love science and mysteries give yourself at least an hour for the full experience. The museum is very social distancing conscious so there may be a small wait to enter the exhibition.

Sherlock Holmes: The Exhibition will be on view through Monday, September 5, 2022 inside the Hsiao Family Special Exhibition Gallery on the first floor of the museum.
