Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The Antique & Collectibles Market is back and there are hidden gems all over the place. The Miami Short Film Festival opens next month, and all the films were made in Florida. Grab a costume and head to the Halloween party for the ages at Miami’s largest Halloween Block party. It’s been more than two years that the Mayfair House Hotel & Garden closed for renovations, but it is now transformed and reopened. Can’t wait to check it out.

Look Who’s Back!

Antique & Collectibles Market on Lincoln Road. I’m so excited to start my scavenger hunts every other Sunday through May 14th.  I have to mark my calendar so I can remember which Sunday the market is open. It’s always smart to have a jewelry and/or antiques expert with you. There are hidden gems all over the place. You just have to be able to recognize them. Some of my friends have bought bracelets, necklaces, photos, lamps, and sculptures for a few bucks and later got the surprise of their lives when they learned that their purchases were worth thousands of dollars. Of course, that never happened to me, but I’m not giving up this year.

The average show contains  about 125 dealers each with diverse interests and collections. The Sundays attract some of the best mix of 19th and 20th Century memorabilia and collectibles. A really great mix of what has come to be known as the Antique Style.

The Antique & Collectibles Market on Lincoln Road also attracts lots of celebs, so look up once in a while to check out the crowd. Past sightings include: Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony, Cher, Lady Gaga, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, et al. Get the details and have fun!

Nov. 11-13. Miami Short Film Festival

This festival year is perfect for those who like a profound flick but want it served quick and to the point. My husband Eliot and I love these movies because they are so interesting. It’s not easy telling a full story in 20 minutes. That’s what makes it so thrilling.

The Miami Short Film Festival is dedicated to promoting the short film genre, showcasing films from 1-20 minutes long. The festival is international in scope, bringing exposure to the world’s best independent up-and-coming filmmakers.

The selection of short films is filled with dreams and talents waiting to be showcased. This year the festival has the fortune of bringing you the promises of the future in film. You will experience a western short film about wealth, rogues, and family, and take a look into academic history with a modern empowerment. Experience a young woman facing her past in order to build a future, and more outstanding films that will delight your eye and imagination. The best part of it – all films are made in Florida! Get details and locations of the films.

Coconut Grove’s Mayfair Is Back in Action

It’s been more than two years that the Mayfair House Hotel & Garden closed for renovations. Many neighborhood friends were so surprised because the hotel was a popular rooftop garden hangout. Everyone liked it just the way it was.

But you can’t stop progress. The Mayfair owners wanted to upgrade the hotel for the future. That day is here. It has been fully transformation.

Time Out magazine reported that the New York-based interior design studio, Goodrich, was responsible for the luxurious guest rooms, all intended to feel like mini private homes complete with a terrace and separate dining and living areas. The larger suites feature standalone bathtubs and outdoor showers.

“The Mayfair House Hotel & Garden’s lush, sun-filled courtyard is a vast improvement from the former humid garden that was the lobby. Maintaining the original design by architect Kenneth Treister, the space is filled with modern furnishings and loads of commissioned pieces by artists from South Florida and the Caribbean.”

A group of us plan to check out the hotel in the next few weeks. I will be reporting updates about this iconic hotel in the next few weeks. Read more.
