How to Dress for the “Apple” Body Type

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

One of the most challenging body types to dress, The “Y” body type, sometimes called an apple, is broader around the bust and back than around the hips. With a very short waist and skinny legs, dressing Janelle became more challenging. Women with slimmer arms and legs often want to showcase them, creating more imbalance in the body. For arms and legs past their expiration date, The Wardrobe Woman, Joann Hopkins says, “If it doesn’t look good, don’t show it.” Lightweight gauzy tops and bottoms cover and feel cooler than exposed skin in the sun. A short waist is best when not defined with contrasting colors. If contrasting color blocking is used, choose darker on top and lighter on the bottom. Matching separates will always win over contrasting separates if looking more slender is the goal.

Meet Christopher Hopkins – The Makeover Guy. “The makeover: It absolutely inspires me. Improvement and response. Thrilling. At three years old I was obsessed with the hair of my “Tootie” doll. This miniature doll, packaged in a plastic cameo, had a tiny body and very long hair. It was perfect for little hands to hold and style. I spent hours on that thing, bobby pins everywhere. Later I graduated to my sister’s Barbie dolls. You could do more with clothing for them because they had full figures for which you could create tissue paper and Scotch tape fashions, complete with stickpin earrings.”

Today Christopher is owner of reVamp! salonspa, in Minneapolis. He done makeovers on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” among other media outlets. His first book, “Staging Your Comeback, A Complete Beauty Revival for Women Over 45,” has helped improve the looks and the lives of thousands of women.

Nothing on my aging body is “expired”. I find some of this article to be so insulting.
