Stretch Before You Step: Gentle Bed Stretches to Start Your Day

Waking up doesn’t have to mean immediately jumping out of bed. Instead, take a few moments to ease into the morning with gentle stretches that help loosen muscles, improve circulation, and prepare your body for movement. A few simple stretches before your feet even touch the floor can reduce stiffness, boost flexibility, and make rising from bed feel smoother and more refreshing. Below are some effective stretches to try each morning before you get up.

  • Hold for 15–20 seconds to lengthen the entire body.
  1. Knee-to-Chest Stretch

  • This helps loosen up the lower back and hips.
  1. Supine Spinal Twist

  • This stretch relieves tension in the back and improves mobility.
  1. Hamstring Stretch

  • Gently pull toward your chest, feeling the stretch along the back of the leg.
  • Hold for 20 seconds, then switch sides.

  1. Ankle & Wrist Rolls
  • Slowly rotate your ankles and wrists in circles.
  • This improves joint mobility and gets circulation flowing.
  1. Neck Stretch
