A Joyful Nudge to Open Your Heart

As we continue through life, we continue to have opportunities to reassess, perhaps to nod in satisfaction, perhaps to experiment, perhaps to change and grow. Each time this happens, we have an opportunity to open our hearts. This month, I’m inviting you to explore journaling.

Many people follow Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way and write morning pages every day. I prefer a shorter journaling experience and have found inspiration in Suleika Jaouad’s The Book of Alchemy, a book of journal entries and prompts.

This is a version of a prompt from Hollye Jacobs that caught my attention:

Describe a day in the life of your dreams. Imagine yourself at some point in the future, a typical day. What do you see? Feel? Hear? What are you doing? Who are you with? Describe this in the present tense.

This can be as short as one page or as long as you wish. It will leave you smiling. It’s a lovely way to open your heart – perhaps to new possibilities, perhaps simply in joy and gratitude in the knowledge that what you’ve written describes the life you already have.

If you’re not yet ready to journal, perhaps you’d like a simpler way to open your heart. Cardiologists say that a good belly laugh is good for your heart. Find a good comedy or perhaps a pair of talented comedians.
