Sonnets from Suburbia: Residuals
Residuals
O once a year or so I will reach out
to long lost lovers, just enough to see
if I am someone who they think about
or even an unpleasant memory.
Since time is always in shorter supply
and what we’ve done with it of some concern,
if it was wasted one could clarify
that it was a mistake, a chance to learn.
But if one is received with some delight
and fantasies that we might entertain
a secret meeting hidden by the night,
while fun to speak of, surely quite insane.
To be together, a forbidden sweet
But we can bask in our residual heat.
