Sonnets from Suburbia: “Oh God Forbid”

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“Oh God Forbid”

O God forbid I try something that’s new,

some different food, a brighter, good routine.

I contemplate a change when I am blue

but hesitate. When at a loss, I clean.

I say I’d like to spend more time outdoors

yet firmly spend most of my days inside.

I seem to frame activities as chores.

In happiness I surely could abide.

What will it take to move desires ahead?

One person and one only in the way.

While spending too much time inside this head

the sun is up so why not seize the day?

This sonnet is in need of a good button.

But lacking that I think I’ll thaw some mutton.
