Buckle Up: It’s Time to Edit Your Belt Collection
January is cold, dark, and dull following all the holiday cheer of December.
I like to use the month to organize my closet and home, so when spring arrives I’m already done with the annual cleanup.
Belts are one of those closet items that quietly pile up—too tight, too loose, out of style, or simply forgotten. Yet the right belt instantly polishes an outfit, while the wrong one can date your look in seconds. If your belt collection is a neglected mess, it’s time for a quick, intentional edit.
The photos show I had more than needed, and those I got rid of which are lying on the floor.
Surprisingly, there were quite a few that shrunk!!!
Start by removing every belt and trying on only the ones that currently fit your body today. If it doesn’t buckle comfortably on your most-worn rise of jeans or trousers, it’s not serving you. Next, take an honest look at condition and style. Cracked leather, stretched holes, or overly distressed finishes should not be worn anymore.
It’s ok to say goodbye.
Finally, organize what remains so you can actually see and use them.
Hang belts on slim hooks, a scarf ring, or a dedicated belt hanger in your closet.
Keep only the ones you reach for most—black, brown, camel, navy and one or two statement belts that truly elevate your outfits.
I suggest organizing by color, because that makes finding the one you need so much easier.
An organized belt collection makes getting dressed easier, and your closet neater.
