May 5th – 22nd.  GOOP Pop-Up

Love her or hate her, Gwyneth brings GOOP MRKT to San Francisco this month. You may have waltzed right by 140 Maiden Lane and not realized how really cool the space is. The unusual brick façade is one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s incredible creations. It’s worth it to pop in just to see the spiral staircase that inspired the design of the Guggenheim.

GOOP MRKT is the launch pad for Gwynnie’s first branded product line, Goop by Juice Beauty skincare (the San Rafael-based natural cosmetics company). SF kitchen s tore MARCH brings some of its most beautiful spice racks and butcher blocks to the space as well. And the interior design is styled after 1970’s Big Sur by Steven Volpe. I urge you to visit even if red carpet celebs aren’t your thing. Get the details.

Now – April; 11. Empty Nesters: A New Play

SF Life: Gwyneth’s GOOP, Property Porn, Empty Nesters, Human Trafficking

I am so looking forward to this original play, being an empty nester (on and off again). First of all, the couple playing the part of the Empty Nesters, are real empty nesters and a real couple. That should bring some reality and sparks to the stage. The play is about ever-familiar helicopter parents (can anyone relate?) and how they feel after dropping their youngest child off at college. The parents take a little detour to the Grand Canyon and come away with different ideas of how their life will proceed.

Marriage isn’t easy as many of us in tomato-land know. Let’s see if the couple in Empty Nesters are able to unite on the next half of their life together. The play is staged at Z Space, a special venue that encourages and empowers works that might not be staged in more traditional spaces.  Get tickets.

May 14. Trafficking Awareness Day

SF Life: Gwyneth’s GOOP, Property Porn, Empty Nesters, Human Trafficking

As I was leaving my yoga studio class last week, I spotted an unusual piece of art that really spoke to me, placed prominently in the window of the studio. When I studied the information next to the painting, I saw that it is one of 77 pieces of art created around the theme of human trafficking. The artwork set the scene for the human trafficking awareness day taking place tomorrow May 14th in Redwood City.

Sadly, this modern day form of slavery occurs across the globe and in many neighborhoods locally.  The organization, Before our Very Eyes, hopes to gather individuals and communities to get rid of this horror. Not only is artwork on display from prominent local artists, there are also moving pieces created by survivors of human trafficking. Participating artists worked with the survivors to unleash their creativity around this difficult time in their lives. Get more info.
