NYC Life: Never Forget, and Fall Events
Yesterday was such an emotional day. It never gets easier hearing all those names read. I’m sharing a piece I first wrote on the 20th anniversary, sharing my personal story of that day in NYC. I was hesitant then to do so, but now I’ve come to realize that we all need to share our stories, especially with young people who were born after 9/11, so that they too never forget. This is my story. Here are highlights of a few wonderful fall events happening in our amazing city, including two fabulous cabaret shows, Gab Carlson’s fabulous trunk show, and the flowers and cards tribute surrounding Gloria Steinem’s NYC brownstone.
Sept. 15-16. The Best Trunk Show in Town is Back

Sept. 17. QUINN LEMLEY Is One Hot Tomato

Oct. 17. Marieann sings Barbra
Every singer has an idol. For Marieann Meringolo, 2026 MAC Award winner for Major Artist – Female, that idol is Barbra Streisand. New Yorkers Pay Tribute to their Neighbor, Gloria Steinem

So much has been said, and so much will continue to be said and lived. When the world lost our legendary 92-year-old changemaker Gloria Steinem on September 2nd, the Upper East Side lost a lifelong neighbor. Steinem grew up in a mobile home in Toledo, Ohio, and put down roots so deep that her apartment at 118 East 73rd Street was a growing forest of its own, and a fixture in her life and life’s work.
In the mid-1960s, the activist and journalist with an artist roommate rented the parlor floor of this 1880s brownstone, and she never moved out. Over the years, Gloria purchased 3 units in the building that was not only her home, but the constant backdrop for her mission. This jewel of an apartment hosted countless gatherings, salon meetings and talking circles. It was filled not only with incredible ideas, people and reformers but also endless colorful objects acquired during decades of Steinem’s world travels, creating a personal diary and cozy and extraordinarily functional space. Most notably in 1971, Ms. Magazine was launched in her living room.
Gloria Steinem’s foundation hopes to remain in the space to continue on the mission that changed the lives of all women. In her book An Unexpected Life, she said, “I have now lived for more than 50 years in this brownstone, in rooms that have witnessed lives before mine, and will know others after I’m gone.” Since her death, people have been paying homage to her and bidding a fond farewell at her doorstep. The vibrant colors of the flowers and messages certainly echo this colorful legend’s life.
