March 14 at 7 PM. BRYCE EDWARDS at Don’t Tell Mama
As part of its ongoing series, the American Song Society, non-profit dedicated to the promotion of and an appreciation for the American Popular Songbook, presents Bryce Edwards, the “nouveau-vaudevillian” crooning troubadour and multi-instrumentalist who has made it his mission to reintroduce the musical language of the 1920s and 30s to New York’s cabaret and music scene.
Acclaimed for completely embodying the performers of the jazz age, Edwards will present a program that will attempt to illustrate the evolution of pop music and singing in the early 20th century, from the acoustic phonograph era to the advent of the ribbon microphone and the birth of crooning. Through a program of standards (as the world first heard them), obscurities, and musical odds and ends, Bryce hopes to paint a vibrant picture of American popular music as it was in its earliest days.
Stride piano wizard Conal Fowkes and New York’s premier antimodernist jazz cornetist Mike Davis join Bryce (who will be providing some hot licks of his own on banjo, ukulele, mandolin, and tenor guitar) in the Frivolity Tri-OH! GET DETAILS AND TICKETS.

Roving at Modernism Week in Palm Springs
Our roving photographer, Nicole Freezer Ruben’s writes:
The most surprising aspect of Modernism Week in Palm Springs was the Vintage Trailer Show. While I expected to see and learn a lot about mid-century architecture, I had no idea how vast the world of antique mobile homes is. This tight knit collectors community shares a wanderlust for the open road that has become such an iconic American pastime.
The fully updated interiors of these RVs have been restored to the nth degree, recalling the decades in which they were built and providing endless whimsy and nostalgia. If one never visited or traveled in a trailer before, the details were universal to the time periods they recreated, and invited all the show’s visitors to revisit their childhood or grandparents’ homes.
The owners of each vehicle were stationed outside their doors to usher you inside their pride and joy. Their exuberance was the perfect welcome mat! The color palettes were joyful an exquisite way to embrace some very small spaces that contained complexly designed living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, bedrooms and baths, all scaled down for travel and function. The common thread through all of the trailers we toured is that they shared storied, well travelled pasts and an obvious sprit for further future adventure.
As Jack Kerouac once said “The road must eventually lead to the whole world.” These magnificent tiny trailers were indeed each a world of their own.

The tomato behind The Three Tomatoes.
Cheryl Benton, aka the “head tomato” is founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes, a digital lifestyle magazine for “women who aren’t kids”. Having lived and worked for many years in New York City, the land of size zero twenty-somethings, she was truly starting to feel like an invisible woman. She created The Three Tomatoes just for the fun of it as the antidote for invisibility and sent it to 60 friends. Today she has thousands of friends and is chief cheerleader for smart, savvy women who want to live their lives fully at every age and every stage. She is the author of the novel, "Can You See Us Now?" and co-author of a humorous books of quips, "Martini Wisdom." Because she's lived a long time, her full bio won't fit here.
