Diana the Musical

NYC LIFE Insider's Guide

A Mecca for Candy Lovers

Our roving photographer, Nicole Freezer Rubens takes us to Economy Candy is a mom-and-pop shop born out if a hat and shoe repair store on the Lower East Side in 1937. Outside the owner had a pushcart selling candy. When The Great Depression hit, the candy cart outsold the repair business and when two brothers-in-law returned from World War II, they focused on candy. Ever since, it has remained a family business run from the current location at 108 Rivington on the Lower East Side. Follow Nicole on Instagram@nfrconsult.
