LA Style Story: Peaceful Coexistance

Peaceful Coexistence, Part 1

Need a way to accommodate for Fall’s, Summer weather? Integrate some of your Summer scarves with your Fall jackets. I’ve shared with you my love of scarves and hopefully this, work around, will make you a lover, too. I’ve taken my black and white bandana print scarf, Amazon, and wrapped it into a long pareo skirt. Its pattern and fabric weight may, read, like Summer but the colours, allow us to perceive it as Fall.

My black jacket, Calvin Klein, and the heavier looking handbag, Carla Mancini, ground my look while lending balance to the bareness of tank-top, James Perse, and sandals, Sam Edelman. My combined necklaces, Gorjana, of freshwater pearls, a gold linked chain and large South Sea pearl, that I redesigned from my Mother’s ring, have a light Summer feeling that works well with my look. If you’re as confused as the weather, the calendar and the seasons…give this, work around, a try. You’ll extend the life of some of your Summer garments and accessories while looking chic and staying, en-pointe, as the weather, hopefully catches up to, fashion’s Fall season.

*style-tip: don’t be afraid to mix-it-up. Consider, fabric, colour, and garment weight for a balanced and cohesive look.

Peaceful Coexistence, Part 2

It feels like a daily fight between Summer and Fall. My answer for a peaceful coexistence is to represent a bit of both seasons. Thankfully, animal prints and slip dresses, All Saints, have become year-round.  My tweedy, textured jacket, Zara, may be saying Fall, in weight and fabrication but the bright multi-shades of orange are screaming Summer. Lucky for me that both my dress and jacket have a bit of an identity crisis to make for a very, peaceful coexistence.

To create balance and avoid conflict between the prints and textures of my garments, I’ve surrounded the dress with a vintage orange scarf, Vera, and sandals, Sam Edelman, but reintroduced the beige and brown tones, from my dress, in my handbag, Bohemian Marrakech. The gold buttons, from my jacket, are reflected in my choice of jewelry that include some very thin gold hoops, a gold ankle bracelet, Gucci, and gold framed sunglasses, Ray-Ban. There is no conflict, here and that’s the way I like it.

*style-tip: by framing your focal garment with one dominant pop colour, no matter the number of shades and various textures, the sightline will remain intact and you won’t look choppy.

*please treat your wardrobe, well. many people worked very hard to get it to you.
