How to Avoid Dating Burnout

You’re matching people on Clubhouse now. What’s that about?

I host a room called Shoot Your Shot, where you can ask someone to go on a breakout room with you, like speed dating. Or they slide into each other’s DMs and meet.

What causes dating burnout?

With online dating sites, people are tired of the games people play. Some are not ready to date or they’re not clear about their ideal partner or relationship you’re seeking.

How can people avoid dating burnout?

Avoid the red flags, such as chatting without them going on the phone or video call. If they’ve hardly written anything, it’s a red flag that they may not be taking things seriously. Or they start talking about sex right away. Or they come on strong right away.

Change your mindset and be patient. It’s a process. You need to put the time in. It’s not easy. Take time out just for you to focus on your health and doing things that make you feel happy. Get on a call or video chat soon.

If you feel frustrated, take a step back and regroup. Use this time to reflect on who you and what you want in a relationship. Find your why. Make sure the reason you’re dating is right. Not to fill a void.

  • Find your how: how do you want this to look and feel? What is most important for you. Be truthful and honest about all of this.
  • Post new pics and bio.
  • Look at past relationships: what worked and didn’t work? Don’t base your relationship on chemistry. Look at your negotiables and non negotiables.

Do you have any advice for people who dismiss potential partners based on a profile or first message?

We could be missing out on great people who don’t have the best photos or writing. Treat your profile like a job. You’re looking for love. Take it seriously in order for others to take you seriously.

What are some tips for those who want to date during the pandemic?

  • Let everyone know you’re single. Someone in your circle may know the perfect person.
  • Join meetup groups. They meet virtually.
  • Join Clubhouse, because it’s a great way to meet singles.
  • Join online dating apps; minimum two, maximum three.
  • Be proactive. Slide into people’s dm’s. Be crafty with your messages.
  • Women, approach men.

What’s your final word of advice for anyone who wants to go on their last first date?

If you feel there’s a lot of chemistry, get tested and get physical if you want to. It’s been over a year since the pandemic started, and it can be lonely.

Nice that it compress good points and wakes up the mind.

  2. Anna Jamey says:

Yeah, but where do you meet them? I look on dating sites and, you might call me too picky, but it’s men that are likely to just bore me. It’s men who can only give one word answers. It’s men who don’t give any answers apart from their age and maybe where they are and that they speak English.

It’s kind of crippling me at the moment. I would like to meet someone outside of the internet dating world (yes, I have seen men following an online chat), but I’m not the sort of woman who gets hit on. I was once told that I just kind of gave off the vibe of being taken. Fab.
