Delightful, Delicious, Delectable

A Trio of Diverse Books

In her debut novel, The Spa at Lavender Lane, Phyllis Melhaldo hits it out of the ballpark. She takes us behind the curtain of wealth and glamour at a premier spa that attracts the elite—celebrities, high flying executives, models, and socialites. The story follows a group of guests who arrive for a ten day stay. They include a burned out Fifth Avenue retail executive, a striking former model and Chicago socialite, an overweight Texas housewife and her beautiful teenage daughter, and a CEO who, unhappy with recent plastic surgery, who remains secluded in her room. An unexpected death, lust, ambition, and competition are thrown into this delicious tale of lust, friendships, and second chances. Get the book.

A Remarkable Novel from the Holocaust to Contemporary Turkey

A Trio of Diverse Books

We have to say, we do not usually read translated novels. But we were intrigued with the story line of Serenade for Nadia written by Turkey’s best-selling author. This beautifully translated and heartbreaking novel tells the real-life story of the sinking of a Jewish refugee ship off the shores of Turkey during WWII. It is told in the current day Turkey through the eyes of Maya Duran a single mother struggling to balance a demanding job at Istanbul University with the challenges of raising a teenage son. Her worries increase when she is tasked with looking after the enigmatic Maximilian Wagner, an elderly German-born Harvard professor visiting the city at the university’s invitation. Although he is distant at first, Maya gradually learns of the tragic circumstances that brought him to Istanbul sixty years before, and the dark realities that continue to haunt him. Get the book.

A Timely Wakeup Call

A Trio of Diverse Books

In her just released book, Make America Healthy Again: How Bad Behavior and Big Government Caused a Trillion-Dollar Crisis, board certified radiologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering, and Fox News medical contributor, Dr. Nicole Saphire, says Americans are notoriously unhealthy. We eat too much, we drink too much, and we’re too sedentary all of which lead to chronic illnesses and the soaring costs of health care. This comprehensive and thoughtful book covers everything from the opioid crisis to doctor burnout. It’s an eye-opening book on how individual negligence and big government incompetence have destroyed America’s health care system. Dr. Saphire is the keynote speaker for our upcoming “Virtual Renewal Summit.” Get the book.
