Spotlight on Long Island Women: Beth Toscano

Long Island is Crazy About Plasterkraze: Where Creativity Comes to Life

“There isn’t anything you can’t do if you put your mind to it.” Beth Toscano

If you’ve ever walked into a place filled with color, laughter, and creativity and instantly felt like a kid again, you understand the magic of Plasterkraze.

And if you haven’t yet, well, you’re about to see why so many on Long Island are truly crazy about it.

Behind this beloved creative space is Beth Toscano, a woman whose journey is as inspiring as the joy she’s been bringing to families for over three decades.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Hicksville, Beth’s path didn’t begin in the world of art. It began in finance. After graduating from the New York Institute of Technology, she built a successful career at Swiss Bank Corporation, working in international operations. She managed trading and currency conversions across multiple countries long before the Euro existed. She even trained in Switzerland during a time when very few women were in the field.

“It was an interesting life,” she says. But like so many women, Beth made a decision that would change everything. She stepped away from her career to raise her children.

What happened next is where her story truly becomes something special.

In 1994, while raising her family, Beth saw something missing on Long Island. There simply weren’t many places where kids and adults could gather, create, and celebrate in a hands-on, artistic way. So instead of waiting for something to appear, she created it.

With the help of a mentor who believed in her, Beth opened Plasterkraze in Centereach.

On her “Grand Opening” day, she booked 25 parties. This was proof that Long Island families were craving this type of activity. And from that moment on, she never looked back.

Step inside Plasterkraze today, and you’ll find more than just a craft studio. You’ll find a place where memories are made. Guests can choose from hundreds of plaster pieces to paint, like ceramics, but without the need for firing, making it easy, fun, and instantly rewarding. There’s also canvas painting, spin art, tie-dying, and paint parties, offering something for every age and every level of creativity.

What started as a space mostly for children has evolved into something even more special. Today, it’s just as popular with adults. Because creativity, it turns out, is something we never outgrow.

When asked what she loves most, Beth’s answer is simple:

“I enjoy it. I like the people. It’s fun.” But behind those words is something much deeper. For over 30 years, Beth hasn’t just built a business, she’s built a community. Her team feels like family, and many of her customers are now second-generation visitors: parents bringing their children to the very same place they once loved. That’s not just success. That’s legacy.

Even now, when asked where she sees herself in five years, her answer is heartfelt and honest. She just can’t imagine not doing this.

“It keeps me young,” she says. “I like being around people.”

When asked what advice she may offer to other women in retirement years, Beth’s response was simple, yet powerful: “Stay busy. Find your passion. Try different things. Travel. Take chances. Live your life.”

It’s the kind of advice that doesn’t just inspire. It reminds us that it’s never too late to create something meaningful.

There is something so special about a place that brings people together, not just for a moment, but for generations.

Beth Toscano created more than a business. She created a space where creativity comes to life, laughter fills the room, and memories are made, again and again.

And that’s exactly why Long Island is still “Crazy about Plasterkraze.”

Plasterkraze is located at 2369 Middle Country Road in Centereach. To book a party or a casual event, call Beth at (631) 689-5231.
