Sonnets from Suburbia: Sugar
Lady Penelope laments an acquaintance’s sugar addiction but banning sugar entirely does not suit. The answer is in her latest sonnet… “Sugar”. And don’t forget to order a copy of Penny Peyser’s (Lady Penelope) brilliant newly released book, “Sonnets from Suburbia: More Candles Than Cake”.
Sugar
She gave up sweets so instantly grew bitter.
Somehow became impossible to smile,
when none around her was a sugar-quitter.
Not ordering dessert did cramp her style.
Not Sweet ‘n Low nor Equal could suffice,
and merely mentioning Stevia lit her rage.
No longer was this girl sugar and spice.
Without her treats she could not act her age.
“What’s wrong with you?” asked her nutritionist,
the villain who’d insisted on this path.
“You ought to know, you sugar-abolitionist!”
“I’ve started smoking to incur your wrath!”
While high blood sugar isn’t recommended,
For mankind’s good her diet was suspended.
