Overload

Don’t show me news about the national debt,

or latest scandal, sexual or other.

It’s not that I don’t care or never fret,

but I’m on overload and it’s a mother.

The hurricanes and fires that took a toll

beyond what most can bare and tolerate,

and leaders whom we simply can’t extol,

I’m yearning for the days of Watergate.

Why even Richard Nixon’s looking good.

For all his faults and foibles he was smart.

At least he had a sense of what he should

be doing – and he may have had a heart.

When things have gone as low as they can go,

thank God I’ve got a bottle of Merlot!
