Sonnets from Suburbia
Lady Penelope’s cat inspires spiritual insight and that comes in handy as Lady P looks to her cat for spiritual advice in “The Cat is Staring”.
The Cat is Staring
The cat is staring into inner space
so fixated on some consuming thought –
Or so his owner was convinced. His face
reflected inner wisdom that she sought.
“I should be like my cat, so very still,”
“Observing all without, within, withal.”
Assigning meaning like an imbecile
When he spits up an elegant hairball.
Have mercy, noble feline, please reveal
The secret sauce to living in this world.
Your way of being carries such appeal,
I long to be like you, my tail unfurled.
Alas, my questions he will not address.
And let’s be real, the cat could not care less.
