Sausage and Peppers Sandwich

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

With the weather warming up outside finally, BBQ season is upon us! Pasquale’s  sausage and peppers sandwich recipe is one of the dishes we have at our summer get togethers. It’s simple, yet so delicious with a mix of sweet, savory and spicy flavors in each bite!

Ingredients:

  • 6 Hot Italian Sausages, casings pierced with a fork
  • 4 Red Bell Peppers, seeded and thinly sliced
  • 1 Italian Long Hot Pepper, seeded and thinly sliced
  • 3 Sweet Onions, thinly sliced
  • 5 Garlic Cloves, crushed and chopped
  • 6 Italian Bread

Add a drizzle of olive oil in a deep skillet. After piercing the sausage casings with a fork, add them to the skillet and fry the sausages on each side for about 4 minutes each. Remove the sausages from the skillet and set aside.

In the same skillet with the sausage fat drippings, add another drizzle of olive oil and then add the garlic and onion and sauté for 3 minutes.

Add in the bell peppers and hot pepper and sauté for another 3 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper.

Add the sausages back into the skillet and cover with a lid. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes covered and then remove the cover and let cook for another 10 minutes.

Depending on your preference, serve the Italian bread toasted or just fresh. Stuff the sandwiches with as much of the sausage and peppers as you like and enjoy!
