Putting Feng Shui into Practice: 3 Small Changes

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Design For Positive Impact

The relationship between heaven, earth, and humanity is the foundation of Feng Shui. These are the forces that shape our experiences and our lives. Feng Shui considers how certain conditions impact the happiness of inhabitants, including the surrounding nature, landscape, building aesthetic, arrangement of interior spaces, and countless other factors. The art of Feng Shui is a method of purposefully designing an environment so that it has a positive effect on the people who live, work, or visit there. In Cantonese, Feng Shui literally means “wind and water.” These are the forces that shape our environment. Water is a visible energy that acts as a “holding bin” for Chi, known as life-force. Wind is an invisible energy, which circulates fresh Chi. Feng Shui principles are based on the idea that our surroundings have an impact on our health, success, and happiness. By making small changes in our environment, we can create positive change in our lives.

Here are three small changes you could put into practice now

Healing Mind, Body, Spirit

We all need healing at this time. The solution will be different for each of us. It could be finding a coach, meditating, journaling, walks in nature or yoga.  Part of your healing journey can also include creating a sacred space at home. Look around your home for an uncluttered spot where you can limit interruptions and feel safe and peaceful. One of the basic principles of Feng Shui is to have support in your space. This can be accomplished by positioning yourself with a solid wall behind you, which is called Mountain Energy. Gather items from around your house that inspire you. Create a spiritual center by arranging your items as an altar, or in a circle around you. Light a candle or incense to engage your sense of smell. Play soothing music and remember to wear a slight smile on your face. Your sacred space practices create an energy in the space which intensifies over time. You will feel this energy build and it will quicken your ability to go deeper within yourself- healing your mind, body, and spirit more and more each time you practice there.

Shift Your Energy With Feng Shui

Turn your bedroom into an environment that emanates relaxation and transports you into a blissful night’s sleep with Feng Shui. In its natural and most powerful state, bedroom energy supports body regeneration and mental expansion. As you enter your bedroom, your Chi energy, should be transformed from your busy, daytime, “yang” self to your restful, “yin” self. A bedroom that has good Feng Shui will support this natural shift in your energy. Select calming colors for this room, like soft neutrals, pastels and colors found in nature: blue like the sky above, green like the new grass of spring, and beige like the sand on the beach. These are colors that relax and heal us. Bring the elements of mother nature indoors with a collection of seashells, a rock garden, a potted plant, or a piece of art that expresses the beauty of nature. Light a candle or incense, smooth on your favorite body lotion, or mist your bedding with the relaxing scents of lavender, sandalwood, rose, vanilla, or cinnamon. Inhale and smile as you feel all your tension drift away.

Celebrate And Own It

You are beautiful just as you are! So, hug your inner self for all your achievements instead of thinking about a list of things you have not accomplished yet. It is often said that, “perfect is the enemy of good.” The virtual reality created by marketers and social media can make you feel like you should be better, happier, thinner, richer, more successful, smarter, or more glamorous. Say, “NO!” and take a digital detox by turning off your devices for a day. Good is a fabulous place to be, so stop striving for perfection. There is no such thing! Do not compare yourself to others. You are unique. Celebrate that and own it. Then, take a deep breath, smile, and treat yourself to some time with other people you know who are positive and secure. It will become a mirror to you, reflecting all you are. Stand tall and proud in your individuality, acknowledge your successes, stay mindful of this moment, and celebrate that you are absolutely fine the way you are today.
