Roving on the Wild Side
Nicole Freezer Rubens writes:
Take a walk on the wild side and visit the Bronx Zoo! This 265 acre forest situated in middle of the city is home to over 11,000 animals and more than 700 species. It opened in November 1899 with the goal of wildlife conservation, and still upholds its original intentions of care, education and preservation. The zoo also operates a veterinary hospital established in 1916.
I was one of over 2 million annual visitors to see the flamingos’ pink reflections in the water and wait for the male peacock to spread his colorful wings. I saw the heft of the brown bear as he frolicked and spotted the beautiful tiger as he blended into the environment.
Surprisingly the zebras were my favorite animals. Their graphic stripes were deliberate and absolute, reminding me that some things are simply black and white. I felt in touch with nature in the middle of the most urban jungle there is, New York City.
A visit to the zoo is a joyful gift that reaches your inner child and lets her frolic in the past, present and future of the incredible wonder of our earth’s wildlife!

The tomato behind The Three Tomatoes.
Cheryl Benton, aka the “head tomato” is founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes, a digital lifestyle magazine for “women who aren’t kids”. Having lived and worked for many years in New York City, the land of size zero twenty-somethings, she was truly starting to feel like an invisible woman. She created The Three Tomatoes just for the fun of it as the antidote for invisibility and sent it to 60 friends. Today she has thousands of friends and is chief cheerleader for smart, savvy women who want to live their lives fully at every age and every stage. She is the author of the novel, "Can You See Us Now?" and co-author of a humorous books of quips, "Martini Wisdom." Because she's lived a long time, her full bio won't fit here.
