Roving in the New York Sign Museum
Nicole Freezer Rubens writes:
If you appreciate old New York, schedule your tour of the New York Sign Museum. Stashed away in East New York, Brooklyn, is a great collection of old signs, safeguarding the many mom and pop shops that have come and gone, and providing a history of cultures, neighborhoods, advertising, aesthetics and technology.
The small museum was founded in 2019 with the goal of preserving New York’s particular styles in sign making and creating an archive for historians and current day craftsmen to rely on for education and inspiration.
The not-for-profit organization is experienced in removing old signs from their previous homes free of charge to maintain the history of the five borough’s distinct personality traits. These pieces are a focused lens into our past and the melting pot that our city has always been.
The gallery operates inside the active sign making shop Noble Signs. Appointments can be made on their website www.nysignmuseum.org or by emailing them at nysignmuseum@gmail.com. It is well worth a visit down this memory lane and a privilege to be in the room with devoted historians, and sense the nostalgia and enthusiasm of the people who work to keep the bygone times of our city up in lights.

The tomato behind The Three Tomatoes.
Cheryl Benton, aka the “head tomato” is founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes, a digital lifestyle magazine for “women who aren’t kids”. Having lived and worked for many years in New York City, the land of size zero twenty-somethings, she was truly starting to feel like an invisible woman. She created The Three Tomatoes just for the fun of it as the antidote for invisibility and sent it to 60 friends. Today she has thousands of friends and is chief cheerleader for smart, savvy women who want to live their lives fully at every age and every stage. She is the author of the novel, "Can You See Us Now?" and co-author of a humorous books of quips, "Martini Wisdom." Because she's lived a long time, her full bio won't fit here.
