NYC Life: Fall Events, Giving for Good, Long Island Fun
October is a busy month for us. We have three of our own October events to invite you to — our first Giving Circle Event (Oct. 6), our final Tomatoes Got Talent Show (Oct. 14), and a chance to meet actress/author Patricia Kara (Oct. 17.) Sell or give your gently worn clothes at Gab Carlson’s benefit for Bottomless Closet. If you’re fall cleaning, the United Breast Cancer Foundation will pick up unwanted items from your home. Our roving photographer says head to the San Gennaro Feast and catch a cannoli. And our Long Island reporter has the scoop on our vibrant theater scene.
October 6. The Three Tomatoes & Glow Magazine Giving Circle Event
Join Anne Akers and me and learn more about our Giving Circle in partnership with She Angels Foundation, which supports women-founded grassroots non-profits that support women and girls. Meet Catherine Curry-Williams, co-founder of She Angels Foundation, and Liz founder of the Bella Abzug Leadership Institute who will receive our first $5,000 grant. Learn more and join us there. The event is FREE but you must RSVP.
Oct. 14. The Grand Finale
Don’t miss this inspiring evening! Get your tickets now.
Oct. 17. Meet Actress/Author Patricia Kara
Join us at the historic, The Lambs, the oldest professional theatrical organization in the US founded in 1874, for an entertaining evening with actress/author Patricia Kara. She has worked in the entertainment business for over thirty years, including starring with Howie Mandel on all three versions of the iconic show, Deal Or No Deal. She is now sharing her hard-earned wisdom, as she takes you by the hand in her book, Dream On Now Deliver, a guide to breaking into show business and thriving. And you’ll get to play Deal or No Deal too. Wine & lite snacks. RSVP here.

Roving at San Gennaro
Our roving photographer, Nicole Freezer Rubens writes:
Catch a cannoli at “The Feast of all Feasts”! The 98th annual Feast of San Gennaro is currently sprawling across the quaint streets of New York’s Little Italy. It honors the memory of the patron saint of Naples, Saint Januarius with a 10-day-long celebration grand marshaled this year by Anne Burrell, a Food Network celebrity chef.
The heart of the festival is on Mulberry Street where the cobblestone comes alive with members of many communities to honor Italian American culture, food, and music. The local restaurants spill out onto the sidewalks, surrounded by sausage sellers, Oreo fryers, singers, craft vendors, kiddie rides, and ring tosses, hopefully for large prizes.
Personally, I love the celebratory vibe of the greater community coming together to partake and enjoy in one another’s traditions and spirit.
This melting pot of old New York City will be on low heat through Sunday, September 22nd. Be sure to save room for a scoop of gelato!

The tomato behind The Three Tomatoes.
Cheryl Benton, aka the “head tomato” is founder and publisher of The Three Tomatoes, a digital lifestyle magazine for “women who aren’t kids”. Having lived and worked for many years in New York City, the land of size zero twenty-somethings, she was truly starting to feel like an invisible woman. She created The Three Tomatoes just for the fun of it as the antidote for invisibility and sent it to 60 friends. Today she has thousands of friends and is chief cheerleader for smart, savvy women who want to live their lives fully at every age and every stage. She is the author of the novel, "Can You See Us Now?" and co-author of a humorous books of quips, "Martini Wisdom." Because she's lived a long time, her full bio won't fit here.
