Miami Life: January Fun nd New Year’s Resolutions

For context, I have a beautiful vantage point from my living room to the boardwalk and the beach. As I typically enjoy my morning tea, I see familiar faces walking and other residents rushing to their destination. I always end up noticing some because of the way they walk, the outfits they wear, or I’d observe a definite pattern in the way they act.  But at the beginning of this year, so many behaviors have already changed!!

For example, here’s this tall grey haired gentleman who always walks at the rhythm of his cigar puffing. A real work of art, he would never miss a beat. I don’t even know how he’s able to do that. Maybe he’s a drummer in real life and has an immense sense of rhythm? But on Jan 2nd, would you believe, I saw him dressed up in full jogger equipment, no cigar and attempting a slow run?

If you saw this man, you’d see a cigar smoker who truly enjoys this little activity. And when you see that he ditched his cigar for a jog, it made me realize that none of us are truly comfortable with what could look like something that’s part of our persona. I can only surmise that he realized his health is everything and apparently, the cigar was part of something that he felt needed to be removed.

This goes for all the little habits that we know are detrimental, and yet we continue because it’s hard to change. And that’s why I love the beginning of the year, because that’s when Hope shows its smiling face.

Remember, it takes 21 days to create a habit. I’ve experienced this in my life more times than I can count. So be kind to yourselves and try. If there is something that bothers you in your life, don’t bash yourself, don’t be hard on yourself. Just try. I was reminded this morning that “For in the way you judge, you will be judged”. So let’s make it a kind New Year for ourselves, one gentle step at a time, and let us run the race!!

Many blessings to all of you from my family to yours!

P.S. If you want to see the beach from your living room, I’m happy to help, and here’s a good start, click here!
