LA LIFE:  MOJO Weekend, Plants, Peace, Dogs, Free Museums

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Well, Tomatoes I need to confess I’m kind of nuts about Succulents and Cactus so I can’t wait to attend this year’s annual “Los Angeles Cactus and Succulent Society Plant Festival” tomorrow. Wow, that’s a mouthful. I’ve got one name for you…Jane Goodall! My hero, Dr. Jane Goodall, will be at the Los Angeles Zoo (in person) for the celebration of “International Peace Day”!  No kidding! There are a lot of FREE Museum Days coming up in September and we’ve got the list.  It’s a first Tomatoes!  “Dogumenta” is the first art exhibition for DOGS! Now that’s something to “bark” about. And MOJO weekend is back and we have an amazing deal.

Sept 15. Plant Festival

For all you garden loving Tomatoes, I attended “The Los Angeles Cactus and Succulent Society Plant Festival” (LACSS) last year, being the succulent & cacti nut that I am, and I was simply blown away by all it offers. Especially the rare, prize-winning Cacti /Succulents on display. This plant festival in Encino really shines above all the others and it’s FREE to attend and park Tomatoes!

I’m always going to sing the praises of succulents and cacti because they are uniquely beautiful, easy to care for in SoCal and here comes the big one… they are drought tolerant.  So, it is no surprise I’m urging Tomatoes to check out The Annual Los Angeles Cactus and Succulent Society Plant Festival.  It’s the perfect place to shop the with thousands of plants for sale and this year they have a much larger outdoor sales area with more cashiers.  Handmade ceramic pots, decorative rocks, garden related items will be available for purchase with the proceeds helping to grow and maintain the public cactus garden at the Sepulveda Garden Center. I love spending money to help a public garden grow.

Sept 23. Day of Peace

The “United Nations International Day of Peace”, at the LA Zoo, is presented in partnership with animal conservation icon and UN Messenger of Peace Dr. Jane Goodall and her “Roots and Shoots” Program . It’s a full day of terrific events but reserve your seats NOW for Dr. Goodall’s “Message of Peace Presentation” as the seating is very limited and requires a separate ticket Tomatoes.  Don’t want you to miss out!

There will be a Peace Initiative project expo, Peace Day parade and live entertainment.  And, of course, the icon herself Dr. Jane Goodall This just takes my breath away gals. Dr. Goodall has been a UN Messenger of Peace since 2002 and she inspires us all to live in harmony with nature and each other. “We celebrate all that is free and noble in the human spirit.” -Jane Goodall. What a marvelous opportunity Tomatoes!

Sept 14-16 & 23.  dOGUMENTA

dOGUMENTA,” at FIGat7th in DTLA over 2 weekends, is not just a Los Angeles first, but is America’s very first art exhibition for dogs!  And it is not by or about dogs, dOGUMENTA is a curated art show FOR dogs. Creative work, from selected artists, addresses the canine sensibility through a variety of media—from sound and sculpture to kibble and squeaky toys. You just gotta love it Tomatoes.

And it is FREE! Reserved tickets are required though…for the humans.  Tee Hee! One dog on a leash per person per ticket.  Each Sunday will feature an onsite mobile dog adoption with Los Angeles Animal Services. And trainers from the Los Angeles Positive Dog Trainer Alliance will be onsite each day of the exhibition to help support dog owners and their pups. What a treat for your dogs…and you!

September Free Museum Days

It’s hard to believe we’re in the middle of September already Tomatoes. Wow!  So, I’m turning you on to another local newsletter, (please forgive) because it is so well done and comprehensive that, frankly, it would take me forever to compile such an enormous list of free museum dates. So…

So, check out LA Weekly’s “Cheat Sheet of Free Museum Days for September 2018”.    A lot of the biggies are on it.
