In her new book, Dr. Carol  Rocamora (pictured) explores the courageous playwrights of the world who used the stage as a platform to address crises of the 20th and 21st centuries.  The book highlights the Public Theater’s support of the century’s most courageous playwrights including Václav Havel, Anna Deavere Smith, Caryl Churchill, Tim Robbins, David Hare, George Brant, Tony Kushner, Suzan-Lori Parks, Jordan E. Cooper, David Henry Hwang, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Richard Nelson, Jessica Blank, and Erik Jensen.   Belarus Free Theatre’s use of performing art to respond to a brutal dictatorship in their homeland features in Carol’s book along with the Public Theater’s support of this fearless theatre company. Founding Artistic Director Natalia Kaliada will be attending our event on October 5 to discuss her work and challenges.

Dr. Carol Rocamora is a New York-based author and educator with a rich and extensive background in the theatre. She is a respected translator, playwright, biographer, and critic. She has been an on-going contributing theater critic at TheaterPizzazz.com for almost 15 years.
