The Book Selection: Maybe You Should Talk to Someone
It’s like being a fly on the wall
This was one of our favorite books of 2019 too. And the reader will feel like the proverbial fly on the wall in in this totally absorbing, shockingly honest, often funny, lessons to be learned book by celebrated psychotherapist Lori Gottlieb. In her book, Maybe You Should Talk to Someone: A Therapist, HER Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed she takes us through her own therapy sessions after being dumped by the “Boyfriend”, and then inside her sessions with four of her patients – an obnoxious highly successful TV series writer/producer; a young woman dying of cancer; an older women who contemplates suicide; a twenty-something who keeps making all the wrong choices. And it’s being turned into a TV series with Eva Longoria. Get the book.

Lori Gottlieb is a psychotherapist and author of the New York Times bestseller Maybe You Should Talk to Someone, which is being adapted as a television series for ABC. In addition to her clinical practice, she writes The Atlantic’s weekly “Dear Therapist” advice column and contributes regularly to The New York Times and many other publications. Her recent TED Talk is one of the top 10 most watched of the year. A member of the Advisory Council for Bring Change to Mind and advisor to the Aspen Institute, she is a sought-after expert in media such as The Today Show, Good Morning America, The CBS This Morning, CNN, and NPR’s “Fresh Air.” She is also the co-host of the new iHeart Radio podcast, “Dear Therapists,” produced by Katie Couric.
