Our Latest NYC Insider’s Event at the Shoe Museum

Our NYC Insider’s Club recently headed to The Weitzman Shoe Museum at the New‑York Historical Society for a wonderful private tour. The exhibition reframes footwear as a cultural storyteller, tracing how shoes have shaped—and been shaped by—American identity. Drawn from the extraordinary collection of Stuart Weitzman and Jane Gershon Weitzman, the exhibition pairs historical shoes worn by everyday Americans with dazzling contemporary creations. Among its most compelling highlights are the beautifully preserved shoes worn by suffragettes, symbols of courage and conviction that carried women through marches, rallies, and the long fight for the vote. These artifacts sit alongside imaginative “fantasy shoes” crafted by artists and the iconic designs that made Stuart Weitzman a global fashion name.

In the museum’s soaring new gallery, visitors encounter footwear that spans centuries and cultural moments—from practical work shoes to red‑carpet glamour. The exhibition culminates in showstopping pieces worn by modern icons, including Beyoncé, whose presence underscores how shoes continue to express power, artistry, and personal narrative. Curated by Jeanne Gutierrez and Keren Ben‑Horin, the museum invites viewers to see shoes not just as accessories, but as reflections of femininity, industry, celebrity, and the evolving story of American style. GO SEE IT.
