Yoga In Bryant Park

As astrology buffs will tell you, we’ve officially survived Mercury retrograde and it’s time to welcome in “retroshade”: the cosmic cooldown period that can make us extra sensitive and prone to overthinking. The best antidote? A good stretch, deep breath, and a little sunshine. And that’s just what Bryant Park has to offer with free all-levels classes in the heart of Midtown led by world class instructors on Tuesday mornings at 10am and Wednesday evenings at 6pm. The final class is on September 17th. So grab your yoga mat and join your fellow New Yorkers in a little downward dog. GET THE DETAILS.

Spotlight on Long Island: Meet JoAnn Marks

Andrea Peponakis says at 77 years old, JoAnn Marks of Yaphank is proof that a life well-lived is one filled with courage, reinvention, and an unwavering belief in love. Born in Manhattan and raised on Long Island, JoAnn has weathered life’s deepest losses — widowed three times — yet she continues to live with an open heart. Today, she is in a new relationship, just a year after losing her last husband, and she makes no apologies for it. “I love being in love,” she says with a smile. “I have a lot of love to offer someone.” READ ON.

Now to Oct. 26. Dining in Transit at the New York Historical

All aboard for a delicious journey through the golden age of travel! Dining in Transit explores how trains, ocean liners, and airplanes turned meals into glamorous, status-defining experiences. From vintage menus and collectible tableware to stories of racialized labor and gendered expectations, this exhibit serves up history with bite.

Don’t miss the Dining in Transit-inspired dessert menu at Clara, the museum’s new restaurant—featuring treats like a strawberry Bavarois from a 1938 SS Normandie voyage, reimagined by Chef Alex Guarnaschelli.

Roving in Quebec

Nicole Freezer Rubens writes:

It’s that time of year again when I escape to unwind at our family cottage in Quebec, aptly nicknamed La Belle Province, the beautiful province, for good reason. The fresh northern air carries a sense of tranquility with a side of serenity. As the days pass I settle into a simple schedule revolving around the lovely sparkling lake and the green, grassy land dissected by dirt roads.

My husband’s family has been spending summers here for 80 years. Soulful traditions and legends have been passed down through 5 generations. We are thrilled by the elementary sight of a chipmunk, hearing the buzz of an hummingbird and roasting marshmallows on the fading embers of the charcoal grill. Each year my children gain respect and have a greater appreciation of their cottage life, as it is their past, present and future. I love winding down summer away from the hullabaloo of my big city days. Spending time together with my family here doing nothing, is truly everything.
