Fabulous at 80; Glam Hillary; Chocolate & Bacon What do The Three Tomatoes have in common with Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Streisand, and President Obama? We weren't invited to Chelsea Clinton's wedding either. But based on the few photos that were released, Chelsea looked radiant, and her Vera Wang gown was spectacular. And the other show stopper was Hillary Clinton, who got out of her pant suits for a couple of days, looking totally glam and nothing at all like the stereotypical dowdy Mother-of-the Bride. Maybe she read the Glam Gals Top 5 Mother of the Bride Trends.
Fabulous Jo at 80+ |
Jo Thompson Forever Fabulous Lionel Hampton called Jo Thompson "one of the last of the great female pianists and singers!" Music critics have described her as "a piano playing Lena Horne". And just recently she was described as "every bit as hip and hot as Diana Krall" - a great compliment for any singer at any age, but truly remarkable since Jo Thompson is the tender age of 80 something and still going strong. She debuts a new show "Thank You Lena" this weekend at New York's Metropolitan Room, a tribute to Lena Horne. In the '50s and '60s, Jo Thompson performed in the top nightclubs in Havana, NYC, London, and Paris. We are so excited that she is joining us this Wednesday at 1 PM on Tomatoes in the Trenches. What a conversation this will be. We're giving away 3 copies of her new CD, "Jo Thompson Forever Fabulous", too. Make sure to listen in.
Glam Hillary | No Dowdy MOB Here"Gone are the stodgy old ideas about how a Mother of the Bride should dress", say the Glam Gals. And Hillary Clinton proved that this weekend. She looked so chic in the flowing turquoise caftan that she wore to a pre-wedding night celebration. And we would love to see more of the fuscha Oscar de LaRenta dress she wore to the wedding, but the only photo that's been released so far just shows the top. But what a great color, and according to the Glam Gals color is one of the top trends in Mother of the Bride Dress. And they should know, they wrote the book. Read their top 5 trends in Mother of the Bride dresses.
Karen Seiger loves NYCs markets | Roni-Sue's ChocolatesYes, Tomatoes, there is another Roni-Sue (for those of you who know the one in The Three Tomatoes family), and this one is a chocolatier. Roni-Sue's Chocolates, owned by proprietor Rhonda Kava, which includes her now famous Pig Candy chocolate covered crispy bacon, is just one of the many finds of Karen Seiger, author of the "Markets of New York City". She discovered these mouth watering concoctions that also include dozens of different chocolate truffles at the Essex Street Market in the Lower East Side. You'll also find First Prize Pies there too, handmade by Rhonda's daughter, Allison Kave. Get the scoop from market guru Karen Siegel who will be sharing her NYC marketing place finds with us on a regular basis. Long live glamour, chocolates, and bacon.

Summer Minestrone
Arthur Schwartz shares his recipe, and says "Fact is, now is the best time to make minestrone. All the vegetables I like to use most - young zucchini and yellow squash, local stringbeans and wax beans, those big white onions called "spring onions," the first heads of cabbages -- are in season. |
