The Surrey | If These Walls Could Talk One snowy day last winter, we headed to The Surrey hotel, which is discretely tucked away on E. 76th, to tour the hotel and spa which was recently renovated to the tune of $60 million. Tucked inside the intimate warmth of the hotel, we immediately forgot about the blizzard outside.
But first a little history. The original Surrey was built as a residence hotel in 1926 and was home to many of New York's most eccentric celebrities over the years, including JFK, Bette Davis, and Claudette Colbert--famous faces who recognized the allure of exceptional, discreet service. Rumor also has it that several famous faces have recovered there after having their famous faces tweaked.
Re-creating The Surrey. The hotel collaborated with interior designer Lauren Rottet to modernize while maintaining the integrity of the hotel's history. Rottet's inspiration was a New York City townhouse passed down through the generations, the keeper of a lifetime of memories. And wow, have they have succeeded! We loved the intimate ambience and serenity you feel the second you walk through the doors. Fabulous artwork throughout and rooms that are so inviting you want to dive right into the Duxiana beds. Plus there's a roof top garden, and you're next door to Central Park. We could live here.
Boulud at the Surrey. The Surrey also houses Daniel Boulud's Café Boulud and his newest venture, Bar Pleiades, located on the lobby-level of The Surrey, a wonderful intimate bar that's definitely for grownups. Rendezvous anyone?
Spa at the Surrey: A sanctuary in NYC | Spa at the Surrey And then there's the fabulous Spa at the Surrey, conceptualized by Cheryl Jacobs as a sancturary. This wonderful intimate space features three treatment rooms and two spa suites. A full menu of treatments and massage incorporates two exclusive products, Darphin which features plant-based extracts and essential oils, and Li'Tya,("of the earth") incorporates ancient Aboriginal healing techniques and natural resources such as desert salts and indigenous plants. You're definitely going want to try the Darphin Rose and Pomegranate Age Reversal Facial. And if you don't win, keep in mind that The Spa at the Surrey is available to any Tomato who needs a little oasis right here in NYC.
