Here's to the Boss; Giveaways; Summer Feet

We have two very special stories to share with you this week, both from one of our favorite contributors to The Three Tomatoes, Rev. Laurie Sue Brockway.  The first is a story about "Alzheimer widows", and the second is about her son's very special relationship with Yankee's owner George Steinbrenner. Get out the hankies. And we had the best time yesterday celebrating the first anniversary of our radio show, Tomatoes in the Trenches. We're still giving away prizes to celebrate.  And did you know you can get skin cancer on your feet, and plantar's warts from pools?  Noted NYC podiatrist Dr. Oliver Zong is sharing some great tips with us, so read on.

The "Boss" and Alzheimer Widows
Just as we were getting ready to post a terrific story that Rev. Laurie Sue is sharing this week about attending a book party for CBS News Correspondent Barry Petersen book 'Jan's Story' and His Story of Loving Two Women, she sent us a link to a story that appeared in Newsday about her son Alex Garrett's amazing relationship with George Steinbrenner.  Alex who was born with one leg, and gets around with the help of crutches and a roller blade, first met the "BOSS" Steinbrenner 10 years again when he was 8 years old and was invited by the Boss, to his suite to meet Phil Rizzuto.

We've posted the link to the Newsday article at Rev. Laurie Sue's page, along with her story about Barry Peterson's inspiring and  heartbreaking book about his wife Jan's sudden, early onset Alzheimer's and his battle in caring for her and coping as her condition declined. Two great stories.

Summer Feet

We have some very important foot advice from NYC Podiatrist Dr. Oliver Zong, like remembering to protect your feet from the sun and skin cancer.  Did you know malignant melanoma's can occur on the soles of the feet and in the spaces between the toes too?  And did you know you could get plantar warts from hanging around pools?  Plus tips on how to avoid sandal blisters, and what you need to know about flip flops.  Read more.

Here's to anniversaries!

You know you're a tomato if...you ever went to a Yankee
game at the original stadium before it was renovated in 1973. That stadium was then torn down for the new stadium that opened in 2009.
