Solo Travel, Shopping Tours of Italy & Paris, from Russian with Wine
It's that time of year when we start longing for a getaway and today we're travelling the world Tomatoes. Our wine guru just returned from Russia, our travel expert has great tips for women travelling solo, plus she's planning a trip to Columbia South America and Tomatoes are invited. And we've found the greatest travel guide books. Thinking of heading to Paris or Italy this year? Then why not think about an insider's guided shopping tour? And speaking of travelling, filmmaker Roger Nygard travels the world in his new documentary, which opens in NYC June 18, The Nature of Existence (see a preview at 3T.TV). Listen in to our interview with him on Tomatoes in the Trenches right from our home page.
Unique travel guidebooks | Travel the world with The Little Bookroom We just found out about The Little Bookroom, a New York City publisher of terrific travel books that take readers off the beaten path and provide an imaginative entrée into the world's best-loved cities, including Paris, New York, Rome, Florence, and London. The art- and culture-related travel books include a series on historic shops and restaurants (New York, Paris, London, Boston); walking tours of Paris; and guides for the gourmet. One of our 3T subscribers recently asked us about shopping in Paris and and before you can say viola! we discovered this fabulous guide book, Chic Shopping Paris at The Little Bookroom. And if you order through their web site, you'll save 20%. Get the details at 3T Travel.
Guided Shopping Tours of Paris, Florence, Tuscany or Milan Now in our book, travelling without shopping is like a martini without the olives. And four of our favorite shopping places in the world are Paris, Florence, Tuscany, and Milan. And wouldn't it be great to have someone pointing you to all the fabulous insider shops, kind of like we do for you in New York City?
Shop Italy with Kathy | When it comes to Florence, Tuscany, or Milan, our very own shopping guru, Kathy Fahy will be only too happy to lead you on a bespoke shopping trip in Italy through her fabulous company Simply Shopping. Get more info at 3T Travel.
And how can you go to Paris and not shop? Chic Shopping Paris, started by Rebecca Magniant the author of the guidebook by the same title, offers insider shopping tours with a behind-the-scenes shopping experience all designed to help you bring home "Paris in your bag." Get the scoop at 3T Travel.
From Russia with WineOne of our more fascinating trips was to Russia a couple of years back which started in Moscow and ended in St. Petersburg after a 1000 mile river cruise. And we're delighted that our wine guru, Cristina Mariani May, who just returned from Russia, loved these two cities as much as we did. And those cities loved Banfi wines too.
Phyllis Stoller | Where are the Women's Travel Tours? Our women's travel expert, Phyllis Stoller highlights a recent article in Newsweek that says the travel industry is one of several where women's needs are not taken into consideration. Phyllis writes, "So where does that leave us solo women travelers who do not want a 4 course hot lunch, hydro-electric plant visit and 53 seater buses where we are assigned to sit in with strangers? Well it leaves us either stay-cationing, going with small un-recognizable women oriented companies or hopping on a big tour bus as the 'third wheel'. Fortunately, Phyllis is sharing some terrific tips on how to pick a group travel company that will meet your needs. And she's planning a trip and Tomatoes are invited! Read more.
Oh the places you will go!

You know you're a tomato if...you've ever gone on vacation and had to buy an extra suitcase to carry home all the things you've bought. Make that two if you're traveling to Italy -- you want to separate those Gucci's and Prada's.

What Tomatoes are reading
A great vacation read Saudi Arabia is no place for a woman. Not an American woman, like Miriam. Not even a Saudi woman, like Katya. And most certainly not for Leila, the Saudi photographer whose disfigured body washes up on a beach in Jeddah. Read more. |
