Travel Lessons, Budapest, Celebrity Chefs

Our travel expert, Phyllis Stoller, was in Europe when the Icelandic volcano erupted, and she has some great advice on what to do (and not to do) in unexpected circumstances. And she just returned from Hungary, Bulgaria, and Serbia. We're adding them to our travel wish list! And closer to home, if you love cabaret, you won't want to miss French chanteuse Yvonne Constant at the Metropolitan Room. And we're highlighting some wonderful events coming up this month that benefit important causes.  Read on.

June 14 Over 40 Celebrity Chefs in One Evening
Join Gael Greene and over 40 celebrity chefs for the  25th Anniversary of Silver Spoons a benefit for City Meals on Wheels and a tribute to James Beard. This year's event is on June 14 at Rockefeller Center and features celebrity chefs from all over the world including Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Wolfgang Puck, Todd English, Daniel Boulud, Ed Brown and many more.  Gael Greene is offering Tomatoes the chance to get tickets for $400 (regularly $600).  And while that might seem a bit steep to some Tomatoes, every dollar of your ticket price will go only to prepare and deliver meals, guaranteeing the lifeline for our elderly neighbors who count on us because they have no one else.  And where else can you sample foods prepared by some of the best chefs in the world, and celebrity watch too?  Get the discount details at 3T Events.

June 11 Celebrate the start of the Women's Global Movement at a reception at Hunter College honoring women whose leadership during the First UN World Conference on Women (Mexico City, 1975) empowered women worldwide to begin working together, forging a global women's movement. This reception will take place during the annual conference of the US National Committee for UNIFEM (The United Nations Development Fund for Women). The two day conference will focus on Ending Violence Against Women. Tickets can be purchased for $75 for the reception only, or as part of the 2-day conference fee which is $195.  Meet some amazing women who are making a difference in the lives of women everywhere.  And special thanks to our friends at Castello Banfi who are donating their award winning Centine wines for the reception.  We'll be there, and we hope you'll join us!  Details at 3T Events.

A Tomatoes' Tomato
Our cabaret reviewer, Sandi Durell has the scoop on great music all over the city, including YVONNE CONSTANT a French chanteuse and 1958 Tony Award winner, who is now performing at the Metropolitan Room.  Sandi writes, "If inspiration is what we want, this lady, of a certain age, appeared in the shortest of mini dresses over a flesh colored sparkly body stocking showing off long, lovely legs. Now ordinarily I might say, hmmm not age appropriate. But for Ms. Constant, if you've got it, flaunt it!  And she's got it! Read more.

Our women's travel expert, Phyllis Stoller has great advice on what to do when you're travelling and the unexpected happens - like volcanic ash.  And she just returned from Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, and Serbia.  Her favorite area? Budapest.  A must read for travel lovers.
