Summer TV and Beach Wear - Bring It on!
We are not among those sanctimonious types who claim to never or rarely watch TV. We were practically weaned on the tube and we'd be embarrassed to give the TV count in our homes.  And you'll find a TV on in at least one room, any time of the day or night.  Granted, a lot of it is "white noise", or we've fallen asleep with the TV blaring, but in between there are a few shows we actually watch.  So we were sorry to learn this week that Law & Order will only live in re-runs. But we're  looking forward to summer TV, because we're just so over this year's winter TV season.

And speaking of summer, we've got some great tips for getting yourself beach ready, with some "Substitute Yourself Skinny" suggestions on reducing the calories in your favorite foods (like Greek salad).  And if you missed O, Oprah Magazine's witty columnist Lisa Kogan on Tomatoes in the Trenches this week, she was a hoot.  Read our review of her new book "Someone Will Be with You Shortly" and listen to her interview at 3T Books.  But first, read on for our TV rant and more.

Law & Order LA? Cougar Town Name Change? Hello Mad Men.

When it comes to Law & Order, truth be told, we've long lost the distinction between the first runs and the re-runs, especially since you can count on finding an L&O episode 24x7.  And there are definitely episodes we've seen 2-3 times, but it's always fresh because rarely do we ever remember "who done it."  But The Three Tomatoes and NYC will definitely miss Law & Order's presence in New York.  If you live or work here and you've never seen an episode being taped somewhere in the streets of NYC raise your hands now.  Okay, those of you with your hands up can now return to living under your rock.  But worse than L&O ending, is the start of Law and Order LA.  Come on now...will this be episode after episode of LA cops who want to be in the movies, fumble crime scenes, and jurors and judges who can't seem to meat out justice to celebs? PUHLEEZE.  And how can you ever beat the combo of Jerry Orbach and Chris Noth? Check out this scene with the detective duo at 3T.TV.

And don't you think American Idol has jumped the shark?  We've been huge fans of past seasons, but just couldn't get into it this year.  With the exception of Crystal Bowersox, (we loved her version of I'm Alright, listen at 3T.TV) we've seen all these aspiring idols before - they just had different names.  And four judges just never worked.  Much as we love Ellen, and especially the fact that unlike Cara and Randy, she has more than 3 adjectives in her vocabulary, she seemed the odd duck out.  We never warmed to Cara, and even Simon's witty sarcasm has grown old. He should have left last season. Paula's looking like a Rhodes Scholar.

Damages, which has been one of our very favorite series starring Glen Close, sadly disappointed this season too.  And since they neatly tied up all the ends from the past 2 seasons, is this their end? Anyway, despite a Madoff type plot, and amazing acting by Lilly Tomlin and Martin Short, the show just never heated up. Here's a clip of Martin Short, who was great as the Madoff family lawyer. Award winning work.

And we just heard that the creators of Cougar Town are thinking of changing the name of the series, because it may be keeping some people from watching it.  You think???  And speaking of cougars, tomato cheers to Kim Catrell who HATES that term, and recently turned down the chance to be on the cover of a major magazine when they wanted her to pose with a "cougar".

Gilles Marini

Desperate Housewives
is just over the top silly;  Grey's Anatomy's whiny characters are getting on our nerves; and Gilles Marini, the hottest hunk on TV, is so ill cast as Luc Laurent the French live in lover of Sara Walker (Rachel Griffith) on Brothers and Sisters. We're talking zero chemistry.  Check out 3T.TV where we've posted a few clips from some of these shows, just to prove our point.

We are so ready for summer and the return of True Blood, Mad Men, and Hung!

Get Beach Ready
All right, we're long past our bikini days, but we'd still like to look decent on the beach this summer.  Chef Susan Irby, who is known as the "bikini chef" and author of "Substitute Yourself Skinny: Cut the Calories, Keep the Flavor with Hundreds of Simple Substitutions!" has a great article for us this week with 10 great substitution tips, and a Greek salad recipe with only 177 calories.

We'll look so good for Don Draper!
