Saving Mad Men's Bryan Batt; plus theater ticket giveaways
Serendipity. We love the sound of that word and that is exactly how Mad Men's Bryan Batt who plays the "in the closet" creative director Salvatore Romano (one of our favorite characters) ended up in New York City this week. He was the guest of honor at a terrific event we attended (at a new velvet rope club, see more below). The event was sponsored by the Advertising Club of NYC, celebrating Bryan's new book, a memoir, "She Ain't Heavy She's My Mother". The short of the longer serendipity story is that a few Ad Club members were in New Orleans not long ago as judges of the Andy Awards (best ads competition) and a couple of them happened into Hazelnut Boutique one of New Orleans many antique shops. And there behind the counter, was Bryan Batt (turns out he and his partner own the shop.) So before you could say "in a NY minute" Bryan joined them at a cocktail party that evening and the rest, as they say, is history.
Bring Salvatore Back
Bryan is incredibly charming, incredibly good looking, and actually looks younger in person than his character Salvatore, in Mad Men. Oh and some of his friends like Judith Light (who looks fab) turned up at the event too. Now, if you recall, Don Draper fired Salvatore last season. We've posted the scene from that episode at 3T TV. And while Bryan's contract was not renewed for the upcoming season, we do hope he will re-appear. And so tomatoes, we're starting a "Bring Salvatore Back to Mad Men" Campaign on our Face Book Fan Page. So join us there and let's get him back at Don's new agency! And read on tomatoes because we've got new theater ticket giveaways including Fela! which was just nominated for a Tony!
The East Side's New Velvet Rope Club On the non-descript block on E. 55th Street between Third and Lex, there is a wide stairway, with a burly doorman and a velvet rope that leads up to beautiful wooden double doors. That is the entrance to Covet, a new club that just opened three weeks ago. This was the venue for the Bryan Batt event. Now not being velvet rope kind of tomatoes, this was probably our first and last visit, but we will say it is very cool space. That is once you navigate your way down the long winding and dark steps leading to the lower level to the club. Great open space in cool greys and animal prints, with lots of side rooms with comfy sofas and tables with large buckets waiting for bottles of Cristal and celebs. As we were holding onto the brass stair banister for dear life, we were breezily passed along the way to by a young guy practically skipping down the steps. Ah youth and good eyesight!
