Our new Twitter friends; Dr. Ruth is back; Keeping Your Marriage Fresh
In our ongoing quest to stay relevant, current and in tune with today's world,
The Three Tomatoes joined Facebook a while back, and recently signed up for Twitter where we now find ourselves tweeting, following and being followed. Yes, we know that sounds a lot like stalking. So this week we thought we'd share this experience with you and tell you about some of our new Twitter friends, like Oprah and TS Elliott.
But first, we've got lots of new updates at our web site this week.
Dr. Ruth is back,
Rev. Laurie Sue has terrific advice on how to keep your marriage fresh, and we've got our review of
Jennifer Aniston's latest movie,
Management which opens in theaters on Friday. (Hint: watch it on your next airline flight, but only if it's free.)
Valerie Smaldone reviews two new Broadway shows,
Waiting for Godot and
Accent on Youth. And learn about the
radio course Valerie is teaching too. Plus our favorite gossip gal,
Liz Smith is dishing about
Renee Zellwegger and
Wanda Sykes remarks at The White House Correspondent's Dinner (which we've posted to
3T.TV. So read on and then visit.
Dr. Ruth is back this week with a video about "
Afterplay." Hint: Immediately falling asleep or turning on
Law & Order doesn't count. And she answers a question from a wife whose husband isn't as interested in any kind of play.

Keeping Your Marriage Fresh
And speaking of relationships, Rev. Laurie Sue writes this week about
How to Keep Your Marriage Fresh. As she says, "There are those moments in every relationship when two people are so far removed from their wedding day that they kind of forget what brought them together in the first place. Whether you are an old pro at married life - or just got hitched again for the second time around -- over time, your marriage needs a tune up here and there (I don't have to tell you that!)".
Read on for some terrific advice.
Our Twitter FriendsFor those of you who don't know about Twitter, and probably couldn't care less (which is probably a healthy thing) it's another one of those "social media" experiments like Facebook with some notable differences. Unlike Facebook, which is supposedly your "friends" who may or may not care what you're doing right now, Twitter lets you follow people you may or may not know like celebrities, newspapers, and people you randomly follow but only because they're following you. Confused yet? And what do people follow? Your 140 characters (a Tweet) of just about anything you choose to say as often as you like.
Now while 140 characters may sound like nothing, try writing something clever, pithy, and that someone might want to follow. Hard work. (And that sentence was 139 characters.) But then again, most Twitters don't seem to care, and besides is anyone actually reading them anyway? Or is all of this "social networking" just one more way for us to be the star of our own life story in a totally self-absorbed way? Want some proof? Here's what some of the 125 new "twitter" friends we follow were tweeting about recently. And we've got about 85 people following us. Why, we have not a clue.
Our dear friend Oprah just started Tweeting about two weeks ago, and she already has 934,393 followers . She recently Tweeted:"My godson got 2 degrees. Psych and Chinese. Headed to Maya's for dinner." Now do we have to ask Maya who? Fascinating stuff.
Someone whose photo is
Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, posts quotes about every 15 minutes. Although they're good quotes, like: "I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals." - Winston Churchill
Whole Foods in NYC always Tweets when they're serving free food. Problem is we never read their Tweets until it's a day or two later. Like: Chelsea: Grilled Cheese Wednesday! 12:30 - 2:30. New Zealand Cheddar. YUM!
Foodimentary (whose Tweets we actually like) wrote: "Today is National Apple Pie Day! I'll have a slice A la Mode, thank you."
Happy and Fit will tell you "How to give an enema" followed by a link.
Someone named
Bonnie tweets every hour. Her Tweets are boring.
Anna Wintour has 4,322 followers and she hasn't tweeted since last Sept. But is it really the real Anna Wintour?
TS Elliott is now following The Three Tomatoes. Really now?
And
our latest Tweet? "Writing about twitter for tomorrow's 3T." Heady stuff.
And of course,
we welcome followers. We at least need to hit 100. So check it out yourself. Just beware of those characters! And while we're still in totally self-absorbed mode, join our
fan club at Facebook too.
So what are you doing right now? And does anyone care?
