Kimonos, Mother's Day Gift Ideas, and Spaghetti Primavera

Sales abound this week and Mother's Day is just around the corner. We've got some fun
gift ideas for Mother's Day which you can pass along as a hint, even though you keep saying oh "I don't need anything." Of course you don't need anything, but lust is another matter. Or just treat yourself. And we want to tell you about a very talented tomato who designs the most beautiful accessories from vintage fabrics (like kimonos.) And did you know Spaghetti Primavera was invented at Le Cirque?  Neither did we, but thanks to Arthur Schwarz, we've got the story and the recipe, a perfect Mother's Day appetizer. And don't miss Gael Greene's story this week on the "new" Monkey Bar, for those who want to see and be seen. So read on.

Five Great Mother's Day Gift Ideas
Our bigger feet and pancake boobs are just a few of the conditions we attribute to Motherhood.  Well that, and getting older too. We may not have been Carol Brady or June Cleaver, but we didn't blow pot into your mouth or breastfeed you while drunk either like some Moms who have recently made the news. We deserve something special. If you can't afford to buy us a pair of those $550 Lanvin sneakers that Michelle Obama wore to a food bank, (psst...they are available at Barneys) we've got some affordable gifts for the women who endured stretch marks and morning sickness from some of our all-time favorite stores and some new Twitter friends.

if you give a martiniOf course our personal favorite is "If You Give a Mother a Martini," a very funny book with tips  for maxed-out moms to bask in a little me-time. Example: If you're playing soccer with your kids kick the ball deep into the woods. This will give you some extra time to sip your martini (oops...iced tea) until the kids get back. Go to 3T shopping and check out our Mother's Day shopping guide.

Discounts and Sample Sales at 3T Shopping
We have special discounts just for tomatoes for gift baskets, flowers, fabulous Italian products and more. Perfect for Mother's Day. And this week's NYC sample sales include 60% off John Hardy's one day jewelry sale and the warehouse sale for Lafeyette 148.  Plus Gilt's online designer sales this week include Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang and more. Details at 3T Shopping.

Kimonos Never Looked So Good
scarvesWe love stories about tomatoes who pursue their passions, or uncover talents later in life. Accessories designer Carol Schneider, who by day is a book publicist, started her design career when she fell in love with some vintage kimonos a few years ago on a trip to California. She loved the colors and designs and started making purses, and then reversible scarves made from 5 different kimono patterns which have now become her signature designs. She still makes beautiful ribboned purses from Kimonos and other vintage fabrics and, after she became a grandmother, added wonderful children's items made from vintage fabrics too.

Her designs have been featured in The NY Times and women's magazines. She sells via word of mouth, has a web site, and her loyal followers look forward to her four times a year trunk sales in her NYC loft.  And we've got the details on her next trunk sale which starts May 18th.  Many items are 50% off and you'll also find handcrafted jewelry by Teresa Montalvo.  You'll love these fabulous one of a kind items.  And note to Carol: Do quit your day job. Get the details at 3T Shopping.

Cheers,

Liz Smith
Arthur Schwartz shares the varied stories on how Spaghetti Primavera was invented at Le Cirque.  And don't ask for it in Italy because they won't know what you're talking about.  And best of all, he's got the original recipe too.

The Monkey Bar
Gael Greene  writes this week,  "Unlike his snooty Waverly Inn, Graydon Carter's newly tarted up Monkey Bar has a reservations line.  Good news for salon refuseniks like us, if you don't mind eating at 6:30 or 10 p.m."  Read on..
