Pinstripes, Bored in the Bedroom, What's in the Queen's Handbag, and more... The Three Tomatoes are huge fans of the Glenn Close series, Damages. The show is riveting, Glenn Close is brilliant, and the wardrobes are to die for. Well we've finally got the inside scoop about those fabulous clothes. And thanks to Liz Smith, we now know what's in the Queen's handbag. And are those emails asking you to "click" to donate a free mammogram for real? But wait, there's more. Don't miss Dr. Ruth's advice this week. Plus, enter our contest to win theater tickets too. So read on. Damages, Patty Hewes, and those clothes This terrific legal thriller series just recently ended its second season on FX. We recorded it and kept putting off watching the very last episode because we just didn't want to see this season end. If you haven't followed Damages, go out this week and rent both seasons. It's one of those shows where you really need to see season one to fully get season two.
Glenn Close plays Patty Hewes a ruthless, stop at nothing attorney who fights corporate greed. (Lots of that going around these days.) And we have to say, Patty Hewes is the best female character ever. Period. She is a symphony of complexity. Ruthless, brilliant, tough as nails, intimidating, sometimes vulnerable, love her, hate her. She brings to mind the song "Why can't a woman be more like a man?" Well this woman can and is, but in a uniquely feminine way. To wit, when she finds out her husband is cheating she says, "You're a man. You cheat. I get it. But what I can't excuse is that you got caught." And with that, she throws him out. Glenn Close plays Patty brilliantly, and we think it's her best role in a very impressive career, and that includes Fatal Attraction. So interestingly, when Glenn Close was asked what her favorite part of the show is, she is quoted as saying "the clothes." Pinstripes never looked so good
The clothes are part of what makes the Patty Hewes character uniquely ruthless yet feminine at the same time. Beautifully tailored suits that get a feminine touch with silk blouses, perfect accessories and more. And the other female characters are dressed befitting their roles as well. Co-star Rose Byrne who plays young attorney Ellen, and this year's guest star, the terrific Marcia Gay Harden played an attorney for the evil corporation who didn't mind flaunting her sex appeal. So we've been on a mission to find out "who" Patty, et al, have been wearing since the season started. And where did Patty get those cool sunglasses? Well finally, thanks to Fancast (a great web site where you can watch many popular TV series and movies, for free) we've got the answers. They interviewed the show's wardrobe supervisor who spills the beans on what designers' clothes they're wearing (and whose sunglasses too.) We've posted a few of the photos of Glenn, Rose and Marcia along with a link to the interview. Get the scoop at 3T Reviews.
The Queen's Handbag and a shout out to the 3Ts from Liz Smith
Every morning we visit wowOwow.com to see what our favorite gossip lady, Liz Smith, is writing about. And lo and behold, this morning it included The Three Tomatoes! And a photo of Liz and the head tomato at their favorite margarita place. But tomatoes, the best part was that Liz shared what's actually in the Queen's handbag. It's not the iPod.
And speaking of handbags and clothes, we posted Michelle Obama's Euorpean wardrobe early this week too, including her photo with the Queen for your comments. Our favorite? The J.Crew sweater and skirt, which just goes to show you don't have to wear high-end designers to look chic. What do you think?
Bored in the Bedroom?
Dr. Ruth has some video advice on that topic this week at our web site. And she answers a husband's question about his over 50 wife who seems to have lost interest. He thinks it's her age. We think tomatoes will like Dr. Ruth's answer. (Hint: It may not be her.) Those "free" mammograms? The Three Tomatoes are always suspicious of forwarded, forwarded emails that have the "latest" whatever health study we should know about, or that want us to go to a web site we've never heard of. Like the one that says go to thebreastcancersite.com and click the button, to donate a mammogram to a woman in need. Well, tomatoes, turns out this one is actually legit. The site was started in 2000, and their sponsors pay for mammograms based on the number of clicks they get. But it takes about 45,000 clicks for each donated mammogram. Last year, visitor clicks funded 3,315 mammograms but that was down from 2007. So start clicking and tell your friends So there you have it for this Thursday. Here's to great style, and healthy boobs.
'til next week,

You know you're a tomato if...you remember watching soap operas with your Mom. Like the Guiding Light which will end its 72 year run in September. (It started on radio.) Soap opera. Such a lovely old term that's heading for extinction. ************************
According to Last Week's Poll..70% of tomatoes said they look younger than their age. The rest told the truth.

Gael Greene is on a gastronomical tour through Italy, and fortunately is safe after this week's earthquake. You'll love her post card from Italy.
Help the victims of Italy's Quake Here is a link to one of the relief organizations. And NYC restaurant Etcetera Etcetera is donating $1 for every patron who comes into the restaurant this week...and taking contributions for the Italian Red Cross. |

How Do Bees Do It?
Watch 3T.TV this week, and you will be as fascinated as we were with this short film by Isabella Rossellini, part of a series about the sex life of insects. Funny, quirky, fascinating. Check it out. | |
