Fashion: MOBama, the Queen, and Carla
Last week was a very fun fashion week following our First Lady "MObama" around Europe. All in all
The Three Tomatoes think she looked spectacular, with more hits than misses. And she certainly one-upped the British Prime Minister's wife. Okay, so we'll be really catty now, but she is so the stereotype of the dowdy English matron. And MObama more than held her own in France with First Lady Carla Bruni. While we weren't totally in love with MObama's floral coat (but loved her dress), custom made by designer Thakoon, we do think it bested Carla Bruni's $6,000 Christian Dior velvet lambskin coat. The Queen and her handbag
But our favorite moment was the meet and greet with the Queen. Now the Queen actually looked quite lovely in pink, but what's with the handbag? She's in her home for Pete's sake. Granted that home is a palace, but who wears their handbags to greet their guests? And what the heck does she carry in that handbag? The iPod the Obama's gave her? We are at a loss. But then again, perhaps this is why we are not the Queen.
Speaking of the Brits
There was much ado downtown last week, when British retailer
Top Shop opened its first store right here in NYC. This trendy, but moderately priced retailer (most items are under $150) is really geared towards the teen and 20-something set. Tomatoes certainly wouldn't have waited outside for 2 hours for the "honor" of shopping the 25,000 square foot store. But they do have some cute items tomatoes will even like, such as this casual linen blazer for $80. So wait for the frenzy to die down, and put it on the list for young visiting out-of- towners.
