Funding a Second Act and Bargain Vacation Ideas

The Three Tomatoes  were joined last fall by 100 other tomatoes to hear an amazing panel of inspiring women on the topic of "Second Acts," a theme that's resonating more and more these days whether by choice or circumstance.  If you missed our breakfast, we posted some of the key highlights and advice from our panelists.  But we also know that many of you are well past the "thinking about a second act" and have already started a business and are now looking for funding and advice.  Well here's a non-profit organization we were excited to find out about and we're sharing it with you.

Show me the money
We heard about
Astia, a non-profit organization for women entrepreneurs, from Jeanne Sullivan, who was one of our "Second Acts" speakersJeanne, who is not only one of our favorite tomatoes and a partner in StarVest (a very successful women-owned venture capital firm) raves about this group.

Started in Silicon Valley by successful entrepreneurs who want to give back, Astia helps connect other women entrepreneurs to investors, industry leaders, advisors, and service providers. The good news is they recently launched a New York City program and are accepting entries right now for their "Doing It Right" 3-day conference April 20-23, 2009 that will help entrepreneurs enhance their company's ability to attract funding and cultivate invaluable relationships.  You can
apply for acceptance into the full program, which includes the opportunity to pitch to VCs in June, and/or you can test the waters by signing up for a discounted offer to attend 1, 2, or all 3 days of the conference. Deadline for entry into the program and to sign up for the conference  is March 31st.

Leaving on a Jet Plane
airplaneSince The Three Tomatoes dumped our corporate jet and rescinded our bonuses, we've been on the lookout for bargain airfares and vacation deals.  Well this month, our
travel expert Phyllis Stoller writes about regaining your sanity through moderately priced travel that combines earth, water, fire, air and you.  Like our very own NYC (what better "stay-cation"), or the chance to see Iceland, volcanoes, or do a little consignment shopping in Paris.  Read on.

Cheers,
