Hope and Miracles, Inauguration Trivia, Clothes Trivia, Theater Ticket giveaways, Last Chance Harvey, and more...

What a week. In the last few days we have witnessed a virtual miracle on the Hudson River, and the most amazing inauguration day The Three Tomatoes remember since John F. Kennedy. And yes, we actually remember that day. We were in grade school (and no we are not saying which grade) and school was closed due to a major snow storm in the Northeast.  It was the first inauguration we had ever watched, and we were transfixed.  Since then, inaugurations have come and gone, but not until this week's inauguration have we been so glued to every second of it, knowing that we were witnessing a great moment in time and an extraordinary day in history.  Miracles and hope.   Keep 'em coming.

Now here's a little inauguration day trivia.
Did you know that Robert Frost, who was invited to write and recite a poem for JFK's inauguration, was the first poet ever asked to do that? And poet Elizabeth Alexander, who wrote and read the poem at President Obama's inauguration this week, is only the fourth poet to recite at a presidential inauguration.   However, Robert Frost was not able to read the poem he wrote for JFK, "Dedication".  You see he was well into his 80s by then, and couldn't see his paper because of the glare of the sun on the snow, so he instead recited from memory another of his poem's "The Gift Outright".

Michelle's Clothes and Meryl Streep's Gown
Not since Jackie Kennedy made pill box hats and sheath dresses synonymous with the early sixties, has a first lady had the potential to shape fashion trends, until Michelle Obama.  Talk about pressure.  The Three Tomatoes love Michelle Obama's great sense of style and we love that she mixes up casual retail with chic designers.  And we really love that she might actually get designers thinking about clothes for women with real bodies too. But we have to say, what was she thinking with her inauguration day dress?  And yes, we know the fashionistas are in love with everything she wears, but are we alone in thinking it was just too lacy and fussy, too old looking, and too lemon yellow?   Contrast that to the fabulous ensemble she wore on Sunday at the Lincoln Memorial concert.  Fabulous tan skirt, black sparkling blouse and matching tan coat.  The epitome of style.  And her inauguration gown was flawless.  We loved, loved, loved it!  And speaking of inauguration gowns and trivia, apparently Hillary's 1993 inauguration gown was briefly misplaced during the White House move in/move out day - gives new meaning to "I have nothing to wear."  We've posted Michelle's ensembles at 3T Reviews.  Tell us what you think.  And by the way,  while we love Ann Curry on The Today Show, she chided anyone who "criticizes" Michelle's clothes or anyone's clothes for that matter, with a "we should just all be kinder" to each other.   To which we say, grow up Ann!  We're not being mean girls, and are just saying aloud what you're most likely thinking.  It's all in good catty fun.

Last week, we posted photos of the tomato actresses who attended the Golden Globes and 60% of tomatoes voted Meryl Streep's gown as their favorite.  So we thought it was great when we read in Liz Smith's NY Post column that Meryl bought her gown off the rack at Saks.  Just goes to show, you can't buy style.

Movies and Theater for "Women who aren't kids"
We had the chance to see Last Chance Harvey, starring Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson and we give it a definite "tomatoes up".   How refreshing to see a romantic movie featuring a couple who are definitely not kids.  While the script is decidedly predictable, and even has "An Affair to Remember" moment, the performances of Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, and the rest of the terrific cast, make this movie a delight and more than just a chick flick,  although we'd definitely suggest it as a fun girl's night-out movie.  Our only beef is the movie trailer highlights so much of the film, you feel like you've see it.  That peeve aside, Hollywood needs to make more movies with actors and actresses tomatoes can relate to, so that's another reason to go and see it.   Oh, and we've posted a terrific message from Emma Thompson to tomatoes everywhere, on how she feels about turning 50 and why she loved doing this movie, at our newly revamped 3T Books, Movies, Music and more Club

Two new off-Broadway Shows and Theater Ticket discounts and Giveaways
Now this is a tomato play if ever there was one.  The Marvelous Wonderettes is about four best friends in 1959 on the evening of their prom featuring favorite songs from the '50s and '60s, such as "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Lipstick on Your Collar," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," "It's My Party," "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)" and so many more!  In fact we've posted a sneak preview of the show at 3T.TV.

And Enter Laughing is back for a limited run.  Based on the book by comedian Carol Reiner about his early years, it tells the hilarious story of a stage-struck, woman-struck teenager who blunders his way into manhood via showbiz--the perfect musical comedy for anyone who ever had a show biz dream, a nagging Mother, a fascination with the opposite sex, a song in their heart or a laugh in their soul.

And here's the best part. We have terrific discounts for both shows, right here.  And three tomatoes will win 2 tickets each to one of these two shows. To enter the drawing, email us before 5 PM on Friday 1/23.  And one lucky tomato who attends our Gael Greene event, will win two tickets to the Marvelous Wonderettes .
