Best dressed tomatoes at the Golden Globes, Restaurant Week, a little Guilt, and more
It's that most wonderful time of the year. The holidays are over, NYC restaurant week has begun, the post-holiday sales are more like giveaways, and the Hollywood awards shows have begun. Yes, tomatoes winter is truly here and
The Three Tomatoes started it off in great tomato style at our first Intimate Conversations event this week, with Wendy Kaufman, aka the former Snapple Lady. Wendy is smart, funny, and amazingly honest about her struggles with addictions, her life as the Snapple Lady, her feelings about being fired, and moving on with your life. Great inspiration. We've
posted the photos and some highlights too, so check them out at our web site. And don't miss the one and only "Insatiable Critic",
Gael Greene on Jan. 27th and the fabulous singer
Phoebe Snow on Feb. 10th. Get details and tickets at our
event page. But now we've got lots to share with you this week, starting with who wore what at the Golden Globes, a little "Guilt" and what our 3T experts are talking about at our web site this week too.
What the Tomato actresses woreWe confess, we love watching the Hollywood awards shows mostly to check out who is wearing what. Not long ago we were commiserating with a tomato friend about how difficult it is to find cocktail dresses and evening wear that's not sleeveless or strapless, and doesn't look like a "mother of the bride" dress that wouldn't even flatter our grandmothers. But let's be honest, the arms are one of the first things to go. We don't care how skinny your arms are, or how much you work out, they somehow get jiggly, squiggly, and crinkly. What's a tomato to wear to still look sexy, and age appropriate too? So we were paying close attention to what the tomatoes were wearing at the Golden Globes, and there were several of our favorites, including
Meryl Streep,
Sally Field,
Glenn Close,
Sigourney Weaver,
Susan Sarandon, and
Jessica Lange. So, while most of the other coverage you'll see of the Golden Globes will feature all those beautiful young actresses in their sleeveless, strapless designer gowns,
The Three Tomatoes is featuring the "tomato" actresses and we've given them our tomatoes up, tomatoes down
reviews which are posted at our web site. You'll see who covered their arms, who should have covered their arms, who looks great and age appropriate, and who needs to stop trying to compete with the young starlets. And even though many stylists suggest that tomatoes look better in color, we admit our closets are a sea of black. But after seeing how great Sigourney Weaver looked in blue, and Sally Field in red, we're rethinking that drab black look too. So check out our
Global Globes fashion review and vote for the actress you think looked best, and let us know if you agree or disagree with our ratings.
Attention designer clothes lovers...A Little Guilt just for you
If you're a fan of designer clothes, especially when they're on sale, but somehow never manage to get to the stores, or when you do everything is picked over, then you're going to love
Guilt, a new web site that brings exclusive designer sales everyday to your inbox. You have to be invited to receive the sales, and eventhough we have yet to buy, we've become addicted. The email arrives to announce that the sale starts at a specific time and ends later that day at a specific time. And let us tell you...they sell out quickly. Some of the deals are really amazing, even on a recessionista budget, and unlike a lot of brick and mortar designers sales, these sales often have "normal" sizes too. Last week there

was a
Vera Wang sale. We just loved this dress (and it was available in 10, 12, and 14 too. Original price was $430. Guilt price, $118. And we totally lusted after these fabulous
Diane Von Furstenberg Shoes,

regularly $320. Guilt price $86. And they had popular sizes like 7s and 8s too. Bye, bye boring black. Now, as we mentioned this is an "invitation only" web site. And because we love you tomatoes, here's a
special invitation link so everyday a little Guilt comes your way too. (If you're having trouble opening the link, copy and then paste the link into your browser
http://www.gilt.com/invite/tomato.)
Restaurant Week and Broadway Deals tooSpeaking of recessionistas, we know lots of tomatoes are eating out less these days, but starting January 18th, and for two weeks now, you'll get some fabulous deals at 250 restraunts. Lunch: $24.07. Dinner $35.00. Most offers are good for Monday through Friday; some offer lunch only or dinner only; and some have added Sunday to the mix too. The participating restaurants include some of our favorites like the 21 Club (lunch and dinner); the Water Club (lunch, dinner, and Sunday dinner too); Union Square Café (lunch); and so many more.
You can find a complete listing of all the restaurants, the offers, and you can book online at
Open Table.
Combine the restaurant deal with discounted Broadway tickets (up to 50%) from sites like
Broadwaybox.com and you've got a fabulous and reasonably priced outing, and you'll be helping the city's restaurants and Broadway too!
