Shopping Deals You'll Love; Stores You'll Love; Fashion Week goes to the dogs; and a 3T rant about "important" people

All shopping is not equal.  There's good shopping and there's bad shopping. Bad shopping generates stress, like wandering aimlessly around a mall; or holiday shopping, bathing suit shopping, and clothes shopping for anything when you've gained weight.  Good shopping generates endorphins and for The Three Tomatoes that happens when we find some great little store tucked away in NYC or elsewhere.  Or we fall in love with an item and then discover there's also a discount.  Good shopping includes good browsing too, although a purchase usually helps the endorphins.  Good shopping can be vicarious, like the joy of the August Sunday New York Times issue that has the women's fall fashion supplement.  And sometimes good shopping means other people have scouted out the good stuff for you.

Introducing NYC Shopping now at The Three Tomatoes
Well tomatoes sit back, because we're about to make shopping fun and easy too.   First Kathy Fahy, a personal shopping guru, has join our esteemed group of Three Tomatoes experts.   And, thanks to our new BFFs at a newly launched web site called Store Adore, we'll be offering tomatoes  shopping deals very week, and you'll be in the know on every great little boutique in NYC (and beyond too.)  And you'll get our Cherry Picks (products The Three Tomatoes are loving, at special prices too) all at our brand new NYC Shopping section of our web site.   Oh, and we'll tell you about a different kind of Fashion Week too.  Here's the skinny.
fahyGet the NYC Insiders Shopping Scoop from the Queen of Shopping
Kathy Fahy learned the art of shopping, fashion, and style at her mother's knee on weekly shopping trips to Fifth Avenue where her mother explained how shapes and colors could enhance your looks. Those early shopping experiences fueled her passion for fashion and style, so it's not surprising that Fifth Avenue is where she ended up a few years later.  For sixteen years she was a fashion executive at Saks Fifth Avenue where she was honored with the Chairman's Award for Excellence for creating the original Real Clothes business.  Frequent business trips to Italy throughout her industrious career resulted in a personal passion for the Italian culture, fashion, and style.  And now Kathy has taken her twenty-five years of "insider's information" on fashion and travel and created Simply Shopping with Kathy Fahy, a unique personal shopping service.  From New York City, to Florence, and Milan, Kathy knows all the best places for fashionable tomatoes with style and taste, and she'll help those of us who aspire to be women of fashion, style and taste.  And now she'll be sharing some of her insider's tips at The Three Tomatoes "Ask the Experts."  She starts off this month, with a guide to the best of everything in Gramercy Park/Flatiron, one of our favorite neighborhoods in NYC, and home to our favorite NYC city restaurant, the Gramercy Tavern.  Not to mention the martinis at the Rose Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel.  Oh, and there's great shopping in the neighborhood too!   Read about it at The Three Tomatoes this week.
And now a guide to the best NYC Boutiques and discounts too!
Love boutiques and wish there was a guide to all the great little boutiques in NYC (and elsewhere too)? Well now there is, and it's called
Store Adore.  It's a terrific guide that let's you search boutiques by neighborhood, complete with descriptions of their specialties.  It was started by two smart young gals who love to shop and who will definitely grow up to be tomatoes too.   And now here's the best part.  Since they're our new BFFs, you'll find their NYC guide at The Three Tomatoes NYC Insiders' Shopping.   Every week, we'll feature one NYC boutique and (the best part)  you'll also get a special discount every week from a store tomatoes will adore too.  This week you'll get a 25% discount  from  Washington D.C. jeweler Ann Hand who specializes in patriotic and political jewelry.   Like rhinestone pins in support of your presidential candidate.   And by the way, when you go to the Ann Hand site you'll see the tally of which candidate's pin is clicked on the most, the pin poll so to speak.

You'll also find their best seller, the
Liberty Eagle Pin and jewelry, cuff links and scarves for all the Armed Services, the Naval Academy and West Point.  We think you'll love our new Insiders' Guide to Shopping in NYC.
pet fashions Has Fashion Week gone to the dogs?
Yes tomatoes, it has.  This coming weekend August 23-24 is Pet Fashion Week in New York City, featuring pet accessories, apparel, and lifestyle items from a variety of international companies.  And yes, there's a runway show too, with long-legged two-legged models and long and short legged four-legged models showing off the latest in doggie and kitty wear.  Now mind you, there has been gossip about a certain poodle who apparently throws up after every meal, not to mention the kitty carousing that's been going on.  You heard it here first, from The Three Tomatoes.

A 3T Rant about all those "important people"
We haven't gone on a rant in a while, not because there's nothing to rant about, but because we try to spare you. (We save the rants for husbands and very close friends.) But we have to get this one off our chests. We've long thought it is rude and obnoxious when people have their assistants call you (and you of course answer your own phone) to put Mr. or Ms. Important through to you. Now that's bad enough, but last week, a Mr. Important's assistant called us for a previously scheduled call , and asked us if we'd please hold a few minutes for Mr. Important.  We did what any self-respecting tomato would do, we hung up.   Ms. Assistant eventually called back (apologizing for having cut us off) and put us through to Mr. I.   The other one that gets us is friends who copy their assistants on personal emails, like "where are we meeting for drinks next week?" Here's how we handle that one.  We gave our dog an email address and we copy him on the copy back.   And guess what?  No one has noticed it yet. We're just not that important.

Here's to great shopping, discounts and deals, fashionable pets, and knowing who and what's important.

'til next week,

You know you're a tomato if...you have two kinds of shopping friends.  The enablers who say, "oh you have to buy it".  We call those best friends.  And then the ones who say, "you don't need that".  Those are called husbands.

Help the women of Zimbabwe
A few weeks ago we wrote about a non-profit organization that is helping the women of Zimbabwe by providing them with jobs as paper crafters and selling their beautiful crafts.   Janice Ashby, founder of Eco Africa Social Ventures, is hosting a series of fundraisers at her home and garden in NYC.  The beautiful hand made paper crafts and small stone sculptures will be on display.  View the invitation.
