Laughs, Martinis, and $3500 for ComedyCures®
We’re talking of course about The Three Tomatoes Broadway Comedy Event last week. We had the best time!
But then again we always have the best times, with or without those ‘tinis. And what a night it was, especially getting to meet so many
tomatoes for the first time. As one tomato emailed us: “I looked around the room and there were all these attractive, confident and well dressed
broads (who in other setting would have intimated the heck out of me) drinking martinis and laughing their heads off instead of handing out business
cards. It made me proud to be a tomato.”
It made us proud too, and there was enough "power" in that room to light up the
New York City skyline. And the best part was that thanks to you, we not only laughed, ate, and drank martinis, we raised $3500 to help support
the amazing work of the ComedyCures organization. Here are some of the evening’s highlights, so even if you weren’t there,
you’ll fee like you were almost there.
Valerie Smaldone, Saranne Rothberg, and Emme (yes the
model one!)
This is the fifth event that Valerie Smaldone has produced and hosted for The Three Tomatoes and let us say this -- she outdid herself.
We are so glad this multi-talented dynamo (media personality, actress, writer, producer) calls herself a tomato! And when Saranne Rothberg, the beautiful, and very funny, in her right,
founder of ComedyCures® (and a stage IV breast cancer survivor) led us through some warm up laughter exercises in
addition to sharing her inspiring story, the raffle
sales doubled and the silent
auction items went to the max. And then there was the surprise appearance of another cancer survivor, the plus-size super model Emme, (and gorgeous does not begin to describe her). When Sarrane, Emme
and Valerie (an ovarian cancer survivor) took the stage, all beautiful, all healthy, all laughing, it was one of those powerful moments that sends
the spirit soaring!
The Comics, the martinis, the sandwiches, the sponsors and
more
The Mad Fashionista, Ms. Elisa DeCarlo herself, emceed the show and of
course, being the fashion diva she is, had more changes of clothes than Cher, not to mention a wardrobe malfunction that would put Janet Jackson's to
shame. As Mel Brooks would say, “Oy Vey”.
Our two female comics, Laurie Kilmartin and Leighann Lord were fabulous! Leighann Lord joined us
for the VIP after-party and she is funny, cute, smart, and charming. She’s appeared on the View, Comedy Central, and
of course several times at the Broadway Comedy Club. You
can check out Leighann’s upcoming appearances and see a clip of her act at her web site . We plan to become Leighann groupies and you’ll read
more about her in an upcoming newsletter.
And by the way, the Broadway Comedy Club is a great venue for private events, and many thanks to Eric Hanson who was just the best to
work with. All of our VIPs got two tickets to the Broadway
Comedy Club. They have shows nightly featuring great comics who have all appeared on national TV and occasionally there’s a
surprise appearance by some of the top comics in the business. So if you’re having one of those days, and need a good laugh, now you
know where to go to cheer yourself up.
Many thanks to our sponsors, advertisers, raffle, auction and goody bag
contributors
