Much ado about nothing; a new comedy series you're gonna love; a new Insiders Event Series; and a few holiday drink recipes

Honestly, The Three Tomatoes thought we were having one of those weeks where we had absolutely nothing to write about.  We've got a cold, we're tired from coughing half the night, and we're staring at that big stack of Christmas cards we should be addressing and can't quite motivate ourselves to do.  And having nothing to write about, got us thinking about, well, nothing.  And as we started to think about nothing, it occurred to us that the best moments in life are usually all about nothing.  Sure there are those truly big moments, and big events like weddings, and births, and special celebrations, and big holidays, but the best times are usually in the smaller moments.

Like spending an hour on the phone with your best friend, and when your husband asks what you talked about and you say "nothing really."  Or it's a lazy Sunday afternoon and you're sprawled out on the couch reading the Style section of the New York Times (aka the women's sports section) while your spouse watches football, and if someone were to ask you what you did that day, you'd say nothing.  It's hard to appreciate the little moments, or the joy of nothingness when you're young because you expect happiness as an event, something that will occur and you will look forward to it and then you'll be happy; when really it's all about little precious moments of time, that are about, absolutely nothing.

Yes, we know, you're wishing right about now that we'd throw in those holiday drink recipes here.  And we will, but wait.  Because as it usually happens every week, we discover something or someone and "viola", we get to turn nothing into something.   Well this week tomatoes we want to introduce you to a new web based comedy series called 50 to Death, that's about, well nothing, sort of.   And we have a fabulous new event series coming up called Intimate Conversations , and we've posted some very festive holiday drink recipes to our web site too.

"50 to Death" is a very, very, funny, clever, high-quality web series featuring three New York City actors, Joan Berber (she would be the tomato in the middle), her guy Norm Golden (left), and their best friend Jon Frieda (right) who found themselves on the other side of 50 with more people wanting to see their AARP cards than their Actors Equity cards.  Not that they're doing nothing mind you.  You'll immediately recognize Norm from that great Citi commercial where the son takes Dad (Norm) to Norway to visit their roots, only to discover they're Swedish.  And you'll find Joan and Norm in biker jackets in ads for Ameritech.  And Jon has more movie, theater, and commercial credits than we have room to list.  But as Joan, who has had a great career in the musical theater, and is petite and still sexy, says, it is still a shock to read casting calls that are looking for an "old" man/woman of 50 plus, or they  find themselves in casting calls for pharmaceuticals, lumped in with people in their 80s.

So they decided it was time to take their careers into their own hands, and produce their own comedy series that shows they can still be "childish and silly and get into the ridiculous situations they used to".  So they created "50 to Death" a series about three friends "who aren't kids" coping with the 21st century as best they can.  The results are a hoot,  and they're impeccably filmed by the "token kid" in the group, Jason Sokoloff.   They've finished the first "mini-season" and new episodes will launch in January.   And here's the really fun part...we'll feature an episode from the series every week at 3T.TV, starting with the first episode so you can get all caught up.  They're only about 5 minutes or so, perfect for that coffee break (or martini break, whichever comes first.)

Norm's Thesis
Go to 3T.TV and watch the first episode where Norm is telling Joan and John about his audition with the 80 year olds in walkers.   And if you can't wait to see the next episode at 3T.TV, then catch up on all of them at "50 to Death."

Great gift for Blues Lovers.   This week's book club suggestion is actually a CD "Cadillac Records" the CD soundtrack from the new movie about Leonard Chess who co-founded Chess Records, the pre-eminent blues label of the Fifties and Sixties. The movie stars Beyoncé as Etta James, and she sings a great version of one of favorite songs "At Last."  Mos Def plays Chuck Berry and he sings "Maybellene" among others, and  Jeffrey Wright sings some classic Muddy Waters hits like,  "I'm a man", "I'm your hoochie coochie man".
