Election Withdrawal; Facebook Envy; 3T.TV;plus the 3T Signature Cocktail Contest
Thank goodness there are only 5 days left before we actually elect a new President. Is it just The Three Tomatoes, or has this seemed like the longest election season ever? Elephants give birth in less time. What on earth will all the TV talking heads blather about now? Will it be safe for Republicans to return to the NYC cocktail party scene? Will the next first lady have to buy her clothes at K-Mart? Will we all have to buy our clothes at K-Mart with cash on a lay-away plan? Are Katie Couric and Tina Fey sending thank-you notes to Sara Palin for their career boosts this fall? Will Oprah become head of the Federal Reserve and give us all free cars? Will whichever candidate who gets elected actually do what he says he'll do? Will anyone in congress let him? And could we PLEASE get a little break before the next contenders start running for the 2012 race? Really, we're liking the thought of election withdrawal a whole lot right now. Thank goodness we had Mad Men and Dancing with the Stars as distractions. Speaking of withdrawal, we are definitely missing Mad Men already, and John Hamm gets our vote for the sexiest man on TV. And we're still loving Dancing with the Stars too, but it was time to say good bye to Cloris Leachman a few (non) dances ago. We admire her tremendously and can't think of too many 82 year olds who could get out there in high heels and move around at all, but come on now people. And the best thing we can say about Susan Lucci is she still looks great at 60, but she hoofs about as well as she acts. Our favorites? Brooke Burke and Superbowl Champion Warren Sapp. What are you doing right now? And does anyone care? Well, maybe, if you're a Facebook user. And according to last week's Three Tomatoes poll about 34% of you have Facebook pages. The Three Tomatoes are new to Facebook, and finally set up our page after being urged by some younger tomatoes to do so and we were curious to see what the hype is all about. So for those of you who aren't familiar with Facebook, it's a social networking site. Or, without all the overhyped buzz words, it's a place on the web where you can set up your own sort of mini-web site, and invite your friends or wanna be friends to come visit and get updated on whatever is going on in your life that you'd like to share with them, and visa versa.
Okay, so to date, we have 8 friends, which we're learning is kind of pathetic since it seems for many "facebookers" the goal is acquiring as many friends as you can. Which apparently you do by inviting people you know, barely know, or wish you knew to become your friends. They of course, are free to reject you. (Gosh, sounds like high school huh?) There are friends of ours who have hundreds of friends so we're already feeling intimated and a little envious. And then right at the top of your Facebook page is the question "What are you doing right now?" And if you write something there, it gets posted to your page, and all of your friend's pages too. Now honestly, does anybody care that we polished off the last of the port after dinner on Sunday night? Okay, so our younger friends love it because they say it's a great way for them to stay in touch with their friends and family who are scattered everywhere. And some people love it because they think it's a good business tool. And some people have a page just to say they have one. Well here's The Three Tomatoes three point view as newbies to Facebook, but as tomatoes in life.
1. Nobody really needs more than three friends. 2. When most people ask the question in the real world, "how are you" it's usually just to be polite, so do you honestly think we care what you're doing right now? It's kind of in the same category as those people who send out those all points bulletin "dear friends" letters with their holiday cards. 3. Chances are if we didn't like you in high school, college, or as a former work colleague, we really don't need to be sharing photos of our vacations with you online, now do we?
None of the above of course applies to tomatoes who would like to become our Facebook friends. And with only a measly 8, we're feeling like the least popular girls in high school. Do we sound desperate? Introducing 3T.TV This is a new section of our web site where we will feature entertainment for tomatoes. A place where you can while away a few precious moments of your life in leiu of doing something more productive. A little guilty pleasure. If we could serve the martinis along with it we would. This week we're featuring a video of one of our favorite tenors, Brian Cheney, and a terrific video of Jerry Orbach singing "Try to Remember" from the Fantasticks. And funny lady Leighann Lord has a great bit on the election, and for more laughs, check out Living Large with Corporate Greed. And don't miss Liz Smith's Fox TV segment on a Palin-Clinton cat fat.
Enter the 3T Olive Oil Cocktail Contest Now you can have your olive oil and drink it too. Our friend Paul Cappelli of Villa Cappelli fame and producer of our very favorite olive oil sent us the recipe for a newly created Villa Cappelli signature drink which is featured in our sidebar this week. And by the way, tomatoes get 15% off Villa Cappelli Olive oil .
So, we were inspired and thought how cool it would be to have a 3T signature cocktail with a touch of VC olive too? So, here's the contest for all of you creative tomato mixologists out there. Send us a cocktail recipe that features vodka and a touch of olive oil (preferably Villa Cappelli) and we'll have a "tasting review" on November 8th a date where several tomatoes are gathering for a birthday celebration, and we will pick our favorite drink. The winner will be honored in our newsletter with the publication of The Three Tomatoes signature cocktail, and will get a free 1/2 liter bottle of Villa Cappelli olive oil. Email us your concoctions no later than Friday November 7th.
'til next week,
