Budapest: From the Grand Market to Haute Couture
We loved the grand market which is filled with food items and souvenirs. A must stop for the salamis, sweet and hot paprikas, dolls, and beautiful handmade embroidered items, from blouses to tablecloths.
And then there is Fashion Street, the Fifth Avenue of Budapest, with the usual suspects of high end retailers. But what really blew us away, was the other fashionable part of town near the Opera House, with its trendy boutiques and hot young fashion designers. They rival anything you will find in NYC’s SoHo , Meatpacking, and East Village.
One standout was a visit to meet Németh Anikó in her showroom Manier http://www.manier.hu/. Németh calls herself a fashion “artist” and when you see her clothing designs, you understand because they truly are works of art. The magic ambiance of her showroom combines her passion for luxury fabrics, objects and colors to create what has been called an “Alice in Wonderland-like imaginary world and forgotten chests in the attic, attracting ageless and adventurous clients”.
The Tomatoes from the 3Ts and the 3Gs (our Hungarian travel partners) had a great time sampling the wares, as you can see from these photos.
Fashion artist Németh Anikó showed us some of her creations.
The 3Ts Cheryl and Roni and the 3Gs Zsuzsa and Eszter had a great time modeling some of these wonderful clothes.
A few more items we loved, especially the hot pink shoes!
